Bald Guys On The Bench

NFL Free Agency Frenzy

Graham Cohen and Scott Wasco Season 1 Episode 142

Send us a text

Recorded March 12th, 2025

The chaos of NFL free agency takes center stage as Graham and Scott dive deep into the frenzy of player movement, quarterback carousel, and surprising team decisions shaking up the league.

The tampering period officially started Monday at noon, but deals were already breaking Sunday evening – a procedural oddity the hosts can't help but question. DK Metcalf's trade to Pittsburgh for a second-round pick (plus a swap of sixth-rounders) and subsequent five-year, $150 million contract stands out as one of the most significant moves, leaving Seattle in rebuild mode after also parting ways with Tyler Lockett and Geno Smith.

Quarterback movement dominates the conversation as Justin Fields heads to the Jets after his challenging Chicago tenure, Sam Darnold joins a rebuilding Seahawks team, and Aaron Rodgers potentially follows Brett Favre's career path with rumors connecting him to Minnesota. The guys debate whether Fields will find success reuniting with former college teammate Garrett Wilson, questioning if he can win more than the single game the Jets managed last season.

The San Francisco 49ers make waves by cutting key players after going "all-in" on recent Super Bowl runs, while the Chargers' puzzling inactivity despite substantial cap space leaves Scott both frustrated and intrigued about potential moves to come. "Something big is getting ready to happen," he speculates, noting the pattern of overpayment by other teams.

Beyond football, the hosts share their genuine disappointment about Tiger Woods' latest injury setback, reflecting on what it means for his golf future and the excitement his presence brings to tournaments regardless of performance. The episode closes with exciting announcements about their upcoming March Madness bracket challenge and preview of Scott's Players Championship golf picks.

Whether you're a football fanatic tracking every free agency move or a sports generalist looking for informed, entertaining commentary, this episode delivers captivating insights from two passionate hosts who aren't afraid to call it like they see it.

Announcer:

Welcome to another episode of the Bald Guys on the Bench podcast, with your hosts Graham Cohen and Scott Wasco.

Scott:

What's up everyone and welcome to a Wednesday night edition of the bald guys on the bench. I'm here with my boy, graham. We finally get to record an episode when it's his quote-unquote weekend and you know, we hit you with the golf Sunday. We're gonna start getting into the NFL free agency, but we thought it'd be better to do it tonight After all the bullshit going on. Graham, what's cracking over there in Vegas?

Graham:

Oh, you know, Another beautiful day out here in the West Coast. But you know, like we always do, all this drama going on with the NFL. We talked about it the other day, but now all the drama happens. But we're going to get into that. Scott, I'm thirsty, it's time to grab one and crack one. Let's go. I am so thirsty too.

Announcer:

And you're talking about the beautiful weather in.

Scott:

Vegas Dude, it was a perfect March day here 70 degrees. Your boy got fit today for his new wrenches by TaylorMade. Oh, baby you, it's been a day. It's been a day. It's been a day. It's a great day to have a day. We'll say that, speaking of a great day to have a day, how about calling more Calvis Caddy today, on 17 Wednesday, at the Players' Championship, all the players throw a bunch of money into a jar and the caddies get to hit a shot close to the pin, gets to take the money oh what's that boy do?

Scott:

oh, he just hoops, it makes a one damn. I mean, you're carrying a bag for 16 holes and then all of a sudden they're throwing you a nine iron pitching wedge whatever 135, 140 yards. Yeah, made a couple practice swings. Oh, thanks for playing, I'm just going to jar it. And then, as he's walking, he's like I've never made a hole in one. If I make it, I'm going to jump in the water. Makes it, jumps in the water. Yeah, there's these things that are big long They'll bite your face off in the water. They're called alligators Zero fucks.

Graham:

Given that's all I got to say to that, I'm curious to know what was the pot. I mean, if you average 200, 300, and even if only half the guys did it 50 players.

Scott:

Oh no, they all throw cash in it.

Graham:

Oh okay, so 100 players, even if it was 200, that's 20 Gs. Hey homeboy, better be playing his boys better tonight, thanks for playing.

Scott:

That's all I'm saying Right. Yeah, it was awesome. That's all I'm saying Right.

Graham:

Yeah, it was awesome, let's go.

Scott:

But you know it's Wednesday. We normally talk about our weekends. Starting off the episode, it's not my weekend, it's actually your weekend. So, g, what did you do today on your quote-unquote Saturday Gee?

Graham:

what'd you do today on your quote-unquote Saturday? Well, I crossed a restaurant off the list. There is a burger place out here, a new spot that opened up about almost a year ago called I think it's called Love you Always. It's a burger place. The only thing on their menu are three burgers and they're all. Mostly it's a Smashburger place, but it's been blowing up all over YouTube and Instagram for being the thing around here and I've seen it and I noticed that it wasn't too far away from where I live and I was like you know what, what sounds good? Today, mom's like you want to go to lunch and I was like you know what? I want to try these Smash Burgers. Everyone keeps blowing it up and she's like all right, let's go out and check it out. So we went and did that and, bro, they weren't lying Gas straight fire.

Graham:

Dude smash burgers they're the deal, bro. I mean, like, is that the first one you've ever had? No, I've had one, like a while ago, but it's been a while. But this place is like they literally only have. Their whole menu is three burgers, more or less the same type, in a sense. They have fries and they have, uh, three different types of ice cream. That's it, that's all they have so.

Graham:

But hey, it's like in and out and back in the day. If you only if you know what you're good at and you only make a few things there you go and let me tell you folks dude, we've got another brawl in this game.

Scott:

This is awesome, Um, but you said like in and out, if you know what you're good at, um. My question is this what is?

Graham:

in and out. Good at Consistency, quality food that's consistent, so not the burgers.

Scott:

Just being consistent is what in and out is best at Quality, not the burgers.

Graham:

Just being consistent is what In-N-Out's best at Quality products made consistently the same way.

Scott:

I'm going to give a shout out.

Graham:

Why are you hating on In-N-Out?

Scott:

Hold on. I'm going to give a shout out real quick to TP. Okay, back in the day when TP was one of my assistants, we went he was a vegetarian and we went and played in the pro assistant in Palm Springs and they had an in and out truck, right, and TP was always talking and praising about the grilled cheese at in and out. And I'm like you know what? I'm going to try it. You know I don't want to eat this big, greasy, overrated burger before I go play golf. I'm going to try it out. It's better than the goddamn burger. Oh, I mean In-N-Out it's good. I mean, I ain't hating on it, but you know, I'd rather go to five guys.

Graham:

Oh, and spend $20 on a burger and bro, what ain't $20 anymore?

Scott:

Facts I'm just. I mean, I went to waffle house the other day and I got the goddamn breakfast combo and eggs are so damn expensive. You had to pay two extra dollars because you got two eggs.

Announcer:

I know I expensive.

Scott:

you had to pay two extra dollars because you got two eggs. I know, I know, but I mean anyhow we got a little off topic, but whatever that's why we are us. Oh, facts I mean. But anyhow, before we get into the episode, I'm just gonna let the world know. Your boy started off nfl free agency excited and then was kind of bummed because my chargers had a shit ton of money and weren't doing anything. And I'm watching, I'm like, uh, you know, like that old meme with the dude with the stick poking, some do something.

Scott:

Oh we signed our punter Yay. You know I'm like, oh, whatever. You know who I mean the one guy you don't want on the field, you know. But you know, literally right before we got on air I got a little bit of good news and a blast from the past. Mike dub back with the chargers. One year deal, 6 million. Can't hate on it If you can stay healthy. Great 50, 50 guy back with the quarterback he played with for a while. You know I was excited. I just literally told TPp I'm like dude, I wasn't excited about doing this episode because my squad that has all this cash ain't doing shit. But I will say this before we get into anything. I said rob, I said I've said it to you, I said it to tp something's big is getting ready to happen in my mind. That's why the chargers haven't overpaid. There's been so much overpaying happening since free agency started. Okay, I think we're going to do something. I don't know what it is. Something's coming, or yeah, who's left Trades?

Graham:

Who's left? You can make.

Scott:

Who's left?

Graham:

to make a splash.

Scott:

Trades and signs. Higgins they're still dangling Higgins out there, Okay.

Graham:

Yeah, but you don't want to pay him that ticket.

Scott:

Dude rumors out there saying the Bengals could trade Jamar. There is, he wants 40. He wants 40 a year. If you're the Bengals, you keep Higgins, you keep Hendrickson. You can't keep both wide receivers.

Graham:

It's one or the other.

Scott:

That's what I'm saying. You keep Higgins and you keep Hendrickson and you trade Jamar and you load up in draft picks.

Graham:

There's not a world I live in that I could possibly see that, but there's NFL media with blue check marks by their name on Twitter talking about it. I'm going to be honest Wow, I haven't heard that yet, but I'll say this To think what the I can't. This is so ridiculous to even think about as a Bengals fan.

Scott:

There is no way you can support your team if you trade Jamar Chase. I don't disagree with you.

Graham:

Considering the fact that you took him in the first round over Penesol Penesol.

Scott:

I do not disagree with you, but remember the rumors last year.

Graham:

When you needed O-line help.

Scott:

Remember the rumors last year about the Vikings and Jefferson. Same thing.

Graham:

There's no way Like besides the talent level between Higgins and Jamar Chase. It's night and day. It's like Batman and Robin and the difference of 10 million.

Scott:

Yeah, it's Batman and Robin. You know, that's what I'm saying, like the difference of 10 million. Yeah, it's Batman and Robin.

Graham:

You know, that's what I'm saying. Like, get rid of Higgins, buh-bye what? Get rid of Higgins? Re-sign Hendrickson.

Scott:

Higgins is a talent. Yeah, but you know he's always been the number two.

Graham:

Like.

Scott:

I know.

Scott:

What I, the number two, like, I know what I, I don't know Just had to throw it out there. But anyhow, before we even get started in all the signings and all this and that and speculations of what's going to happen, can I just say one thing Tampering period was supposed to start Monday, a couple of days ago at noon and all of a sudden we get the news oh, Devontae Adams signs with the Rams. I'm sorry, how are they negotiating when tampering starts Monday at noon and he agrees to a deal Sunday at 6 o'clock Eastern time? That's like saying, oh, you know, your tee time is at 8 o'clock tomorrow, but yeah, you can go play at 7.

Graham:

It's like I've said before what's the point of leaving the tampering period? It doesn't make sense. Just start the free agency on Monday. Call it a day Like what. You need time to talk to multiple people before you decide who you want.

Scott:

What were the days before that exactly? It makes no sense. I don't get it at all, whatever. But something that did make some sense on sunday night and got you all fired up was DK being traded to your Steelers for a second round, pick right Second, and then like a flop of six.

Graham:

We swapped fists. Yeah, swapped six picks.

Scott:

And then you signed him five years, 150?. Yeah, something like that, right, yeah, hey, solid Dude, seattle, jeez Louise, you get rid of Gino. You get rid of Tyler Lockett. Now Geno's gone. I mean, smith and Jig was number one. Who's their quarterback? Hold my beer, sam Howell.

Graham:

At the time, until the new signing.

Scott:

But then bada, bing, bada, boom Monday, the number one free agent quarterback. Yeah, let's go. I'm a Seahawk, sam Darnold, let's go. Do you like him going there? It's something we haven't even talked about. Do you like him going there?

Graham:

Yes, for a couple of reasons. One, where was he going to go that you can say to yourself does he fit the system Right? Number one because, obviously, what he did prior to being in minnesota, it was all about the system and the players around him, right. So, being in the right system, being with that coach, everything was good. Um, and the thing also is, it was one year that he proved his worth.

Graham:

So, as an organization, how do you say to yourself do I really want to spend 30 to $40 million on this guy that just had one really good year on a team that had the great pieces around him? So if the teams that really needed a quarterback, they don't have those pieces. So if you don't have those pieces, why would you want to risk spending that money on someone that had the? I mean, I'm not calling him a one-hit wonder, no, I agree. I mean he's still young and all that stuff, but it's just like I would want him to go to a place where he would feel comfortable in their system and he wouldn't have to basically put the franchise on his back, because everyone knows Seattle, they're in rebuild, like, let's be honest. So, with that being said, they need someone to steady the ship play. Well, help them win some games. Like, let's be real, if they win, is there? Is there over under six and a half? Seven and a half, not sure?

Graham:

no, I mean I don't think it's out yet, but I'm just saying, based off the players that have departured from there, you would have to say they're over-unders, like six and a half. You would think so Right now. So, that being said, they need someone that's competent to come in there and they still needed someone because, granted, they still have Howell there, but you need someone else there as well, so they need some. Basically, they need someone to sell it to the fans Is really what it comes down to.

Scott:

I personally thought the best place for him to go would be to your team. Yeah, I just you know, he's still young. I, I, just, I, I thought, but you guys weren't gonna pay that and that's the thing we weren't gonna pay that.

Graham:

It's like we have some money to spend, but uh hello, we just gave a boatload of it to dk. Uh, hello, we're gonna be paying t Watt another record-breaking contract.

Scott:

This is his last year, right Last year, yeah, yeah.

Graham:

So they're going to re-sign him and you know how much that's going to cost us. Yeah, exactly so it's just. I mean, that's going to be close to 40 a year and, trust me, if there's anyone that deserves it, obviously, yeah, he does Him. So we've picked up a couple other pieces. I just didn't want to get them and by him I mean Darnold because I didn't want to spend that price tag. That's really what it was. It was more for roster management in my reasoning, because if we're going to spend that type of money, then we can't pick up the other. Like, could we have paid DK if we got Darnold? Probably not, you know.

Scott:

Stop, stop. Yes, you could have. Did you see what the Chiefs did today? Did you see what the Chiefs did today in their salary cap hell? They just restructured Kermit and Chris Jones to free up $49 million.

Graham:

Yeah, but the problem is, the biggest people that we owe money to or that are in contract with us are people that we need to resign, like TJ at the end of his deal. The biggest contract that Pittsburgh has, I think, is Mika Fitzpatrick Wow, right now. And then obviously DK. Right now and then obviously DK, because all the other guys kind of restructured, but TJ Watt's deal, but he's on the last year of it, so he can't really restructure. That's why they're giving him a new deal anyway. So it's just like he can restructure and extend, which is what he's doing. He's going to retire as a stealer.

Scott:

So my question is this what are y'all going to pay Aaron Rodgers?

Graham:

retire as dealer. But so my question is this what are y'all gonna pay aaron rogers, 25, I would say he wants to play two years, so we'll call it a two-year deal for 50 million dollars for two years. What did donald?

Graham:

he's not worth. Like, what was his deal for the jets? I don't remember, I don't even remember. Yeah, well, it is what it's like. I i't think, I can't. And look, as we were saying before we got on here, rogers has choices, but let's be real. He doesn't need the money. He's already made enough. So why go to places where? Why go to the Giants? Makes absolutely no sense. Why go?

Scott:

to Tennessee. Why are you even talking to the Giants? That, just Exactly and Giants. Why are you even talking to the Giants Exactly. And Giants. Why are you even talking to him?

Graham:

Because they need wins. That's why why.

Scott:

To save the GM and the head coach that are buh-buh after this year.

Graham:

Yeah, a hundred percent. They got to put the best pieces there so they can keep their J-O-Bs.

Graham:

Like that's really what it comes down to, they ain't keeping it. So, in that thought process to me, I would think that two places that Rodgers would go would be one the Steelers, or two Minnesota, considering all the people that they've just signed in the last day and a half. So it's like he got choices. But the funny thing is it's funny how things work out in life. If he does go to Minnesota, I'm just going to start calling him Brett Favre 2.0.

Scott:

Minus the dick pics.

Graham:

Minus the dick pics.

Announcer:

That is wild dude minus, that is.

Graham:

So it's like.

Scott:

I mean, could you imagine?

Graham:

I mean I've, I know right the hilarity of the situation is just to the vikings like to play for the same three teams but to do it in the same order. You know what I mean. It's just ridiculous. I will never forget To play for the same three teams, but to do it in the same order. You know what I mean.

Announcer:

Dude, I will never.

Scott:

It's just ridiculous. I will never forget when Brett Favre went to the Jets Remember his first year with the Jets. They started off hot and the Chargers had a Monday night game against the Jets at Qualcomm and we just laid the wood to him. I'll never forget it. But dude, I don't know. Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers makes sense. You know it does. It makes sense. I just I mean, is he gonna? We all know the history of Rogers. He doesn't show up to minicamp. Is Tomlin going to lay the law down and be like look here, you mom hater, danica Patrick breaking up with going to hide in a dark hole for two weeks.

Scott:

asshat, you have to be here.

Graham:

Look if you learned anything after the stint with the Jets? You've got to be there in training camp. You have to get the rapport with the wide receivers and the players. It has to happen.

Scott:

That whole thing with the Jets dude. It just started off as a nightmare. We all know we don't need to go back. I mean the Monday night game when he tears his Achilles, you know third, fourth play, whatever. That just started off bad. If it doesn't start off that way, it could have been a different situation. You know Sala, whatever his name is, what's their old coach's name? I always call him Sala. It's not Sala. Whatever his name is, what's what's their old coaches? I always call him solid.

Graham:

It's not Robert Sala.

Scott:

Okay, whatever, he might even still be the head coach, right?

Announcer:

He should have been.

Scott:

It was a nightmare, but I don't know, it's hard to say. The weird thing to me is my charger signed Najee Harris for like five and a half, guaranteed like up to nine. The Steelers couldn't give Najee that. The guy hasn't missed a goddamn game in his career. And then I saw a fact that really blew my mind and really made me not be as excited about signing Nazi Dude. The longest Russian Nazis career was like 32, 33 yards. He ain't that home run hitter. So hold on, I see the look on your face. He is a gap power running back. Okay, he's getting the hard yards. Yeah, you'd think 33 yards, 34 yards.

Graham:

I'll preface that with this, and I'm not and I'm not hating, I'm just.

Scott:

I know the blue lines mean shit, but Right, but I had to read that a couple times.

Graham:

Yeah, trust me, I like seeing the clip where it said your head coach had a longer rushing yard, had a longer rushing attempt than Najee Harris and I don't know. First off, what I'd say to that is this you know who our quarterbacks have been the last four years? You're not telling me teams weren't stacking the box 100%.

Scott:

But even when they did, though, hold on. Even when they did, though, was it last year, when he went nuts. He was having a shit season. In the last six games of the season, he went ape shit the previous year. Previous year. Yeah, yeah yeah, not yet when you made the playoffs. I just remember the game when y'all dominated Seattle in Seattle to get in the playoffs. Yeah, and he was just like hey, boys, get on my back, we good.

Announcer:

Yeah, and he was just like, hey boys, get on my back we good.

Graham:

Yeah, yeah, I still don't understand the situation. Yes, the contract that he signed was like $5.125 million or $5.25 million, but it was up to eight or, I'm sorry, up to nine. It was $4 million in incentives and when I saw that contract, I'm like Pittsburgh couldn't offer that Right One-year deal, one. I'm like I just something I can't say, like there has to be some reason for it. Like I don't know, maybe he didn't want to split time because they're still going to have Warren, jalen Warren. So I just I, I don't know. It was weird. We've been saying for how many weeks now all these running backs coming out? I get it, I, just I, I there sometimes look, you've mentioned it earlier Sometimes our teams can do things that you're just like what? What's the plan here?

Scott:

I'm here, sitting here thinking about it right now. Pruno Ford stud for us this year Free agent. We signed from Buffalo and we let him literally go over to the Rams for, I think, $3 million more than what we signed Bradley Bozeman for to be our backup center.

Graham:

Yeah, it was cheap.

Scott:

I was just like and as much as I ripped on Bradley Bozeman okay, he played every game. We've talked about this before, did he play? Well, yeah, whatever, the continuity between him and Herbert was good. But you're gonna let Puna Ford, who was an amazing asset to your defense, the number one defense in the regular season, points allowed. Let him walk, whatever, not even getting into it, but some wild things like if you woke up monday and said you saw this coming, then I'm going to call you a bullshitter. And that's the texans trading tonsil to the redskins, right, right. I mean, cj Stroud was, I think, sacked more than any quarterback Well, maybe not Caleb Williams, but their offensive line was shit. And the Texans, dude, are 100% revamping their O-line. And we're talking about Tonsil, who, pro Bowl, is young and this is his third team.

Graham:

I know that's crazy.

Scott:

Crazy.

Graham:

And everything I've heard researched about Tunsil is attitude issues Make it make sense.

Scott:

Yeah, it's wild, I don't know. I mean, miami took him in the first round. Remember he had his bong face masks ripping some weed that surfaced the night of the draft and he dropped. Remember that that was crazy.

Graham:

Oh dude, he was going to be a top five pick, yeah.

Scott:

And then that shit came out Ugh Dolphins drafted him, traded him to the Texans. But hey, washington doing things, doing work to protect homeboy and the Bears Bears' worst offensive line in the league. And they go out and spend a shit ton on this free agent center. I can't think of his name from the Falcons. They go out and spend a shit ton on this free agent center. I can't think of his name from the Falcons. Then they do the trade with the Chiefs.

Announcer:

Sheesh Protecting the old Caleb.

Graham:

Yeah, random thought now. What do you think now, with these new pieces? What do you think? Their over-under is going to be now, because I feel like last year it was inflated.

Scott:

Yeah, the Bears, it was 100% inflated.

Graham:

So now that a year has gone by and it comes back down to earth, but remember how they started. Yeah, yeah, but they were against shit teams in their first six, eight games were against shit teams.

Scott:

But remember the Hail Mary against.

Announcer:

Washington.

Scott:

That killed them. Oh, that was the end 100%. I don't know. I mean, you got Ben Johnson there. We'll see what happens, who knows. I just like the fact that the Bears went out and Washington went out and they're like, hey, we got young quarterbacks, let's protect them, and they went out 100%. They went out and did it, unlike my effing team that has not signed a lineman yet. You got a quarterback Anyhow. Hey, what have you always been saying? Trust the process.

Graham:

I know, I know the thing that sucks is when we can't see the process and we don't know what it is. This is why we're jumping up and down right now. We're just like, all right, we trust you, but seriously, what the fuck are you doing?

Scott:

Can you spend some of that? Money, please yeah, third most cap A little help here Something I have to bring up right now just because I need to laugh after talking about my team. Tp sent me something yesterday on Instagram and I just sent it to you. You want to read everybody that text I sent you earlier About has your team signed a free agent for over $6 million since 2015? Oh here we go, yeah, and this is mind boggling dude, and this is mind-boggling dude.

Graham:

Has your team signed a free agent over $6 million since 2015? Yes, of course, and they're circled, all these teams. There's only one team in the NFL in the last 10 years that has it. And, folks, this is actually kind of surprising, but when you think about it you're like, now that you think about it, that kind of does make sense. Give it up for the GM of the year, jerry Jones, and the Dallas Cowboys. Let's give them a little golf clap.

Scott:

Thank you, and by all the teams circled that have, that's 31 teams.

Graham:

Yeah, I'm like 31 teams. Yeah, I'm like Like, exactly, wow, wow.

Scott:

The last player the Cowboys signed in free agency for over $6 million was Greg Hardy In 2015.

Graham:

Oh, that is.

Scott:

I mean speaking of teams signing people that have no money. How about the Saints, dude? They were number 32 in cap space Restructure, Derek Carr, and now they got the tight end.

Announcer:

Chase Young Dude they got it all.

Graham:

I don't know.

Scott:

Make it, make sense, folks, and I'm just going to go out there and say the funniest thing I've read on the world wide web since Sunday is miles Garrett reportedly demanded $40 million a year and a super bowl winning quarterback to lead the Browns, and the Browns were like done, send me Kenny picket, send me Kenny.

Announcer:

Pickett, if that doesn't put a smile on your face.

Scott:

Bald guys on the bench listeners. Nothing I will ever say will.

Graham:

Hey, if he wants, Russell Wilson's also taking a peek over there too.

Scott:

We're on the street homeboys in Cleveland right now. Oh man, your boy that you wanted in Pittsburgh, justin Fields, dude To the Jets.

Graham:

You know the dust has settled a little bit on this for me, after a few days thinking, about it.

Scott:

You were bitter, betty, I was. I know you were Because I sent it to you and you sent me the throw up on your face emoji. You were not a happy camper, I know, and I agree. The dude hasn't been given a god dang shot With the Bears.

Graham:

Yes, he played great.

Scott:

With what he had, with what he had.

Graham:

Yeah, yeah. But If you can't make it to your third progression, that's a problem. If you're a top 15 quarterback in the NFL, you have to make it to your third progression.

Scott:

Yeah, you know why he couldn't make it to his third progression? Because all the goddamn teams were playing man-to-man. He's sitting back there and he goes. He's covered. He's covered. Guess what I'm going to do? He gone, I'm going to run. I don't have to make it to my third progression If they're playing me man to man. Yeah, I get it, Don't have to. The NFL has changed. We know that.

Graham:

Yeah, but Fields isn't throwing anyone open.

Scott:

He did pretty good through six games for you guys last year. No, do you want me to bring up his?

Graham:

Uh, he did pretty good for through six games for you guys last year. No, yeah, do you want to bring up his stats for those games?

Scott:

Yeah.

Graham:

Four to two. Okay, how many 300 yard throwing passing games did he have?

Scott:

Uh, how many did Jalen Hurts have? He won the Superbowl yeah.

Graham:

He also had Saquon Barkley in that defensive line and one of the top offensive lines in the league too. I'm just saying you asked 300 yards.

Scott:

I'm just throwing that out there. You asked 300 yards.

Graham:

I mean speaking of the.

Scott:

Steelers dude. I got to say this because grammar police did you see his text he sent today? No, he said if Aaron Rodgers signs with the Steelers, I'm partying in the streets and I'm getting Graham a jersey.

Graham:

No, he says he's getting me a jersey from China. Oh, I was going to leave that part out.

Scott:

Oh, okay With the little me a jersey from China. Well, I was going to leave that part out. Oh, okay, with the little mini-me numbers.

Announcer:

Yeah, yeah.

Scott:

Whatever, dude, why are you going to spend $400 on a jersey when I can get it from China for $30?

Graham:

I don't care how big it is oh, hold on, no, no, no, no, don't be saying that now because you gave me shit too, so because you gave me shit too, so don't say oh, no, no, no, it's not a big deal, but then when I do it, you bust my balls about it.

Scott:

I gave you shit because I didn't even realize it until Grammar Police decided he was going to joke on your jersey.

Announcer:

Yeah.

Scott:

But then again we joke on Grammar Police because he's a fan of two teams.

Graham:

Yeah, I mean hey, it's not doing me any good right now that $150 Herbert jersey that's sitting in my closet, that I'm no longer a season ticket holder for.

Scott:

Yeah, so how do you think Fields is going to do for the Jets?

Graham:

I like it. They got pieces. I mean he's back with Garrett Wilson, so that's a plus.

Scott:

They got a running back. They actually have two running backs.

Graham:

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I mean the threat on offense is there, it's, can they make it work? Type of a situation. So I mean anything can happen. I think things will be positive, anything can happen, I think things will be positive.

Graham:

The real question is this Does he win more games than the just one last year? That's the real question. I would think, yes, I mean they're making some moves. They've signed some players Not too many noteworthy players. Well, I mean, obviously Justin Fields is the biggest signing that they had, but I mean, look to have that offensive firepower in Brees Hall and have the legs of Fields. That's dangerous. You obviously have Garrett Wilson, like I mentioned. They got pieces. The O-line is pretty good. It's just the thing with the Jets was a lot of their players got hurt last year. Yeah, they did. They lost two offensive linemen. They lost some of their defensive players, Because the biggest thing for the Jets was their defense Right, Was it not 100%? And when you lost a couple of key defensive players, that makes a huge deal. So if they can get their pieces back, look they have a really good chance of can they win eight games?

Scott:

They could If they won eight games. If they win eight games this coming up season, that's more games than Aaron Rodgers won in two seasons with the Jets.

Graham:

Well, okay, he also I know.

Scott:

He screwed up his Achilles Just saying Fair, I get it.

Announcer:

I get it, just saying.

Graham:

I don't know. Yeah, I mean, look, the craziest part is Fields' biggest thing was wherever I go, I want to be the starter and, like we've talked about, on the show before.

Scott:

Is he really?

Graham:

going to be the number one.

Scott:

And, like we've talked about on the show before, he now gets to go be that guy and guess what? He doesn't have to look over his shoulder.

Graham:

Yeah, but are you telling me the Jets aren't signing someone? Or they're not drafting a quarterback.

Scott:

He's the number one dude.

Graham:

Okay, let me ask you this question how confident would you be if Justin Fields was your quarterback and not Herbert?

Scott:

That's a different story. We're comparing a Mercedes to a God dang Kia.

Graham:

A Kia? How about a Hyundai?

Scott:

No, hyundai is way better than a Kia bro.

Graham:

That's my point. He's not a Kia, it's more of a Hyundai, Not whatever. I mean not the real nice Hyundai like the, not the. Not the real nice Hyundai, Not the Genesis.

Scott:

You know, like the Elantra. I'm weak. I'm dead. I'm weak. Anyhow, let's go. This is way too much time spent on the goddang Jets. I mean, can we talk about something that I never thought I would ever see happen? Besides and that is the Niners cutting half of their goddang team and something I never thought I would ever see happen I thought the dude would retire before it would happen. Is Kyle Juszczyk? Is that how you say his name? Yeah, getting released. Never thought I'd see that happen.

Graham:

And why is that? It's because each team has that one player that you're like that's the team guy, that's the captain. We're going to keep him around, we'll give him less money, but we're not letting him go type of situation.

Scott:

The dude was a baller. How many teams use fullbacks anymore? Exactly, it's dead. It's a new league. Not only that, but I always like to bring this up. Wife's a smoke show, makes jackets. Taylor Swift is wearing her jacket.

Graham:

What are you trying to say? She's hot, no, okay, but what does that have to?

Scott:

do with Nothing. It has nothing to do with anything, I'm just pointing out the obvious. She's hot Okay.

Graham:

Oh, a wife of an NFL player is hot Shocker.

Scott:

Yeah, exactly, exactly. But dude the Niners, I mean we talked about it before we even got on air. They went all in. John Lynch Shanahan were like before we even got on air they went all in. John Lynch Shanahan were like it's win mode. Now you said it, they've been in two Super Bowls in the last whatever Four or five years. Yeah, jimmy G as your quarterback, brock Purdy as your other quarterback, and remember, jimmy G almost won that game against the Chiefs.

Graham:

If he doesn't overthrow Emmanuel Sanders, that's over the end. Like he overthrew him by five yards. Well, maybe not five.

Scott:

It was like three, like about two, three yards. Didn't they have a huge lead going into the fourth?

Graham:

I don't know if it was a huge lead.

Scott:

It was two possessions.

Graham:

Yeah, two possessions yeah, but that would have been the nail in the coffin.

Scott:

That's a big lead in the Super Bowl, in the fourth quarter, two possessions Facts. But, dude, didn't they go out and they go crazy, let's get McCaffrey. You know Jeez Louise, yeah, dude. Then they go out and they go crazy, let's get McCaffrey. You know, geez yeah. But are we gonna see all the people on defense?

Graham:

Greenlaw and all them like they, trent Williams, all these guys homeboy gets hurt in the Super Bowl jumping up and down.

Scott:

Yeah, didn't he tear his ACL or whatnot? I mean it's like yeah, and then this past year the injury's terrible, but Just bad luck for them this past year.

Graham:

I mean they were competitive. I mean they look, they put all the chips in the middle. They said we're going all in. They did. They had two chances to win it all. I mean, look what would have happened if Purdy didn't get hurt the previous year and they could have played the Eagles.

Scott:

No, he got hurt against the Eagles. Oh yeah, that's right, yeah, so not In the first quarter, I think.

Announcer:

Yeah, and they got a vote, so that's what I'm saying.

Graham:

It's just like oh Well. So that's what I'm saying. It's just like oh Well, dude.

Scott:

That was an infamous game when Joey Bosa was going to root for his brother and remember all the Eagles fans yelling at him and he was like, oh, are you sending this to your boys on Snapchat? Speaking of Joey Bosa, dude Chargers released him, saved 25 mil on the cap and just signed him with the Bills last night.

Graham:

What was it for? Like 10, 12, something like that Not a lot, dude.

Scott:

Not a lot, yeah, but you know, once again the guy stays healthy. He's a menace 100%. Bills just released Von Miller. They had to replace him with somebody, right?

Graham:

I don't hate it. Everyone always says the best skill to have in the NFL is availability. If you ain't on the field, it ain't helping me. It ain't helping at all.

Scott:

So I'm just what else we got. What else we got? Oh Hopkins who One of my favorite got. Oh Hopkins who, One of my favorite wide receivers ever dude, this guy is literally one of my favorite wide receivers ever for what he did at Houston with the 17,000 quarterbacks that threw him passes, and he just signed with the Ravens. For what Six mil.

Graham:

I don't even know.

Scott:

My thing is this.

Announcer:

I don't even know what to say.

Scott:

I mean, it's sad.

Graham:

If you're on a team that has Patrick Mahomes and you don't get the ball hardly at all towards the end of the season, like the first couple games that he started. He had decent numbers, he had a lot of targets. Decent, he had a lot of targets, but like the last five games of the season and then into the playoffs, like three targets a game, like what happened.

Scott:

Yeah, I will say this. Obviously he's getting older but it's got to be hard to get traded midseason and go somewhere, like the Chiefs who have a lot of pieces in place and now to go be the guy. Pieces in place and now to go be the guy. You know it's gotta be hard, granted that that wasn't the reason he dropped that ball in the Superbowl, you know. But to go to the Ravens, you got Zay flowers. He's going to make some catches dude for the Ravens. Yeah, I think it is a good situation for him.

Announcer:

No, I agree 100%.

Graham:

It's a great situation, Especially with I mean, who's Lamar throwing the ball to?

Scott:

Yeah, Zay, Mark Andrews. What's the other tight end's name? Likely.

Graham:

I say likely.

Scott:

Likely and still.

Graham:

Wait, I thought Andrews was a free agent. Is he? Are they resigning him?

Scott:

No, he's got one year left. Oh, that's what I keep waiting for my charters to do. Andrews, with Joe Ortiz's history with the Ravens Makes sense. But, yeah, yeah, but I like it. I like him going there. He doesn't have to be the man, right, you know, it's not the pressure of the trade midseason where you're supposed to go into the Chiefs and be the man.

Graham:

Yeah, but I mean.

Scott:

We all saw Xavier Worthy be the man at the beginning of the season and then, as the season progressed, became the man.

Graham:

Oh, 100%, you know. But Well, when you have his speed I mean it helps. Yeah, it don't hurt things right, like, let's be real. Yeah, the only thing I'll say about the Hopkins is this Were you that impressed with what he did at Tennessee the full year he was there Previous?

Scott:

Who's throwing him the ball?

Graham:

That's well. I mean, like I get that. But look, I know my comment to that would be you're still an NFL quarterback. You have to be good Like you can get the ball to your star wide receiver. Like that's the only thing I would say to that I'm trying to think of some asshat quarterback yeah, you're trying to poke holes in my theory like I can't starting quarterback, not backup, not backup starting.

Scott:

Anyhow. Anyhow a couple of things that I'd be depressed if I didn't bring up in the show tonight. Number one Ovechkin. Nine goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's record, yeah, and the saddest news of the week tiger woods. Oh bro, brutal. When I saw that I was just like come on, man dude the worst part about it was I did.

Graham:

I mean, obviously you're upset because of you know the mat, you know he was ramping up for possibly playing in the masters and you know all the other events, but like it didn't even dawn on me, bro, he can't even do the tgl. Obviously he's done. I don't want to say it's the sign sealed and delivered, but we're at a point now where it's just like I don't want to say, if he comes back, but the only thing he would do when he recovers is TGL, because there's no walking at all, like playing on the seniors tour, maybe if he wants to do that, or possibly if he gets an exemption Wait, can you get exemptions into majors?

Scott:

Well, he's exempt for the Masters for life. Well, yeah, and the British basically for life, but normally people are done when they're 65. Yeah, I don't know. I think the US opens 10 years. Yeah, I don't know the PGA. But my golf committee chairman texted me last night and he was like dude, doesn't it suck for Tiger? I'm like dude, it's brutal me last night and he's like dude, doesn't it suck for tiger? I'm like dude, it's brutal. You know he goes now. He's got two bad legs. I think he's done playing anything on the tour. Maybe the champions tour next year when he can ride. And I said what you and I always say I'm like, yep, play champions, ride, get in tournament and play in the majors. And John was like I'd be surprised if he was able to walk 72 holes.

Graham:

He's got two bad legs now I just, I'm just not ready to let go, dude.

Scott:

You have been to Augusta, I've been to Augusta. You know how hilly that goddamn place is. You know how many crazy lies you get on that golf course.

Graham:

Uphill, downhill, side hill, that puts a lot of pressure on what your knees, your legs, ankles everything. Can he walk with a cane? Is that allowed?

Scott:

I'm sure, but he ain't doing that, I'm just saying I know I was like, even though I'm not going to Augusta this year, I'm still bummed for all the patrons that were looking forward to it, just to even if he misses the cut. Dude, if he misses cut to see tiger, like last year when I went. I got there on Sunday. I went to the practice round on Monday. I literally you know how that walk and going into the place, the practice facility on your left, the first person I saw on the practice facility was Tiger hitting bunker shots.

Graham:

How many people do you think were standing right there? A thousand Times ten, I'm just saying just in that little spot.

Scott:

Just to see Tiger there. You know, I just got goosebumps thinking about it. It sucks, bro. It sucks. I don't care. I don't care if he goes out there to Augusta and shoots 80-80 and misses a cut. Whatever, you're watching Tiger at Augusta.

Graham:

Bro, I'm going to say something that makes me want to vomit. In 10 years, tiger's going to be one of the opening ceremony guys. It might be longer than that. To tee off, it might be longer. Well, in 10 years, the three guys that are still alive. You're not telling me who's going to be the ceremonial guys, because Nicholas will probably be dead in 10 years. Gary Player will definitely be dead in 10 years.

Scott:

Who is it now? It's Gary Jack, and is it Watson?

Graham:

Yeah, and Watson, yeah, yeah, I mean, all those guys are mid-70s and up.

Scott:

Most of the guys stop playing, like the British and Augusta, when they're around 65.

Announcer:

Yeah.

Graham:

Hard to say I mean, if there's any course, tigers would still have a chance. The older he gets, it would be Augusta, just because he knows it so well and that's where you're wrong, MF-er. Tory Nope.

Scott:

You're forgetting about the flattest course of all of them.

Announcer:

Oh well, when.

Scott:

Come on. Oh well, where Come on? I'm waiting. To quote Caddyshack Judge Smiles. Well, we're waiting.

Graham:

I just slapped myself. Just hit me with it. St Andrews.

Announcer:

All right, there you go.

Graham:

Yeah, but they only do it there. What is it Five? They don't do it. Do it there. What is it every Five?

Scott:

They don't do it every five, Like how is it Every how many years it's?

Graham:

five, yeah, and they just did it Two years ago.

Scott:

Yeah, when Cam Smith won.

Graham:

So that was at least yeah.

Announcer:

Two Well, yeah, so he could do it. Yeah, yeah.

Scott:

Hmm, it's a flat golf course. Alright, yeah, but yeah, so he could do it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Hmm, it's a flat golf course. All right, yeah, but you know, it sucks regardless, that's all.

Graham:

I mean, dude, the worst part was after it happened is just when you see Jack Nicholas make a comment, he's like well, that's locked up now. Yeah, he didn't catch it.

Scott:

I mean, like I get that he didn't catch it. It was signed, sealed delivered I mean like I get that. Jack said that before this.

Graham:

No, I know, but I'm just saying like, yeah, it sucks. A he's still number two in my book. I don't give a shit. A that's an argument, but I mean, you could go either way, I don't disagree or agree.

Scott:

I'm just going to say yes.

Graham:

Yeah, I mean we've had episodes where we've talked about it in the past. We don't need to get into it because now it's just like now I feel like debating it, but I'm like, no, we don't need to get into that.

Graham:

It's just, it's sad, especially because now he's almost 50. And then like dude recovering sad especially because now he's almost 50. And then like dude, recovering from a major injury at 50 is not easy folks, and then to recover and still be an athlete after that, it's like sheesh but we're almost an hour into this episode.

Scott:

A couple things I want to talk about before we get on. Our next episode on Sunday is Scotty's hot picks for the Players' Championship. If you've made it this long and you're still awake, you're going to release this in the morning. It might be too late to place a bet.

Graham:

No, I'll do it tonight, all right.

Scott:

What do we got, graham? What do we got? We have Scotty's Hot Picks. I think I got three top 20s this week. Right, you do, we're six and one since we've started this trend, and the one we talked about is Daniel Berger, shooting eight over on his last four holes.

Graham:

The unluckiest of luckies.

Scott:

Did you?

Graham:

forget your three guys already you got to look it up.

Scott:

I know I have Patrick Cantley Yep. I have Russell Henley, yep, who could be the hottest player on the planet right now. Yep, who is my third. This is terrible.

Graham:

Tiger's boy. Who's Tiger closest with on tour?

Scott:

Oh duh, jt baby, I'm like duh and they're all and they're all plus money top 20. Yeah, okay, and I even sprinkled a little top 10 for JT, yeah, but more importantly, what happened? Sunday, graham, march 16th, st Patrick's Day, that's the 17th, so smack yourself, okay.

Graham:

That's what I thought was on the specific day.

Scott:

This coming Sunday the brackets are released oh and yes, last time I checked, we don't have any emails from anybody wanting to get into our bracket challenge, so you?

Graham:

better start emailing us apparently people don't like free, so you better start emailing us. Apparently, people don't like free stuff, or they don't want to support us.

Scott:

I've been called out by Audrey. I'm going to kick your ass, audrey. I love you. You're one of my best friends, but I'm sorry, you don't know if a basketball is stuffed or inflated.

Announcer:

Know if a basketball is stuffed or inflated Her TP, throwing it out there.

Scott:

Grammar police Buckeye actually texted me about it.

Graham:

All right.

Scott:

So Buckeye's in. But you know what, graham? Two episodes. This week we added Bangladesh to a location of people that listen to our episode Weird, but anyhow, march Madness is about to start, literally dude. What's this? Oh, today's Wednesday, a week from tomorrow. Well, we'll have the play-in games A week from tomorrow. Let it all begin, let's go, but let's go, duke. Hey, I'm gonna puke in my mouth when I say this, but I kind of want them to win because I bet on them and I like my money more than my fandom so anyhow, graham, get us out of here.

Scott:

It's been fun doing two episodes with you this week. Chargers, I'm going to poke you a little bit. Can you do something?

Announcer:

Right Look.

Graham:

There's a plan. We don't know what it is, but Hopefully we can figure out what it is soon enough. Scott, what a crazy last couple days has been. This is the excitement we've been waiting for after post super bowl. You know, the only thing that's keeping us excited about the nfl stuff that's happening right now obviously the combine stuff, and now the only thing of excitement is because it will die. These player additions will die off here within another week and then the only thing that's left the draft, and that's about five, six weeks away.

Announcer:

April.

Graham:

So yeah. It's usually it's like the third week in April, I think.

Scott:

And the best, thing, the best.

Graham:

Thing schedule release in May. Yes, all right, lord.

Scott:

Two years in a row you've got us two years in a row. Please, nfl, people, don't bend us over. Please, baby, please have this. I like to think of baby. Please have the steelers charger game, please baby Jesus. I like to think of baby Jesus.

Graham:

Please have the Steelers-Chargers game that we can go to and, if not, please have the game that, if we meet up with Rob Either in Kansas City or In Dallas, something, something needs to happen, but we need to see a game together.

Scott:

And please don't let Washington and the Chargers be in Brazil.

Graham:

Yes, I know right.

Scott:

That's going to be the Texans, please don't. That's going to be the Texans. Done deal, but Graham, get us out of here. I love you, buddy. It's fun, I got to go to the dentist tomorrow, well while you're having fun with that, buddy, it's fun.

Graham:

I gotta go to the dentist tomorrow, ugh. Well, while you're having fun with that, I'll be at work. So, scott, it's always a pleasure doing the podcast with you. Hopefully, our teams do some more in this offseason to help us out and, as the best homie always says, buh-bye.

Scott:

Good night friends. Fowler, you're about to dominate this week. You don't even know it, it's happening.

Announcer:

Let's go. This episode of the Bald Guys on the Bench podcast is brought to you by our friends at Northstar Credit Union and Southern Auto, located in Southeast Virginia.
