Bald Guys On The Bench
Championship Sunday Showdown
Recorded July 20th, 2025
Scottie Scheffler has done it again! The guys dive deep into Scheffler's masterful victory at Royal Portrush, where he captured his fourth major championship with the poise and precision that's quickly becoming his trademark.
Graham and Scott break down what makes Scheffler's game so devastating—his remarkable iron play, newfound putting confidence with the spider putter, and that unshakable mental approach where "golf doesn't matter." The statistics tell the story: Scheffler is 111 under par in majors since 2020, a staggering 46 shots better than anyone else. He's now joined Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player as the only golfers to win the Masters, PGA, and Open Championship before turning 30. But is this "Tiger-esque" dominance truly comparable? The hosts explore the fascinating differences between these two generational talents.
Other standout performances get their due, including Bryson DeChambeau's incredible comeback from a disastrous first round to finish strongly, Rickie Fowler tying for the tournament lead in birdies, and Rory McIlroy's solid showing in front of his home crowd. With the Ryder Cup looming at Bethpage Black, the guys dissect the current standings and debate the critical captain's picks that could determine the outcome.
The episode shifts to NFL training camp updates, including TJ Watt's record contract with the Steelers, roster movements across the league, and some questionable team decisions. The show wraps with a spirited discussion about the WNBA All-Star game controversy and the weekly "hot chick" selection.

Welcome to another episode of the Ball Guys on the Bench podcast, with your hosts Graham Cohen and Scott Wasco.
Scott:What's up everyone and welcome back to another episode of the Ball Guys on the Bench. It's a championship sunday episode. I know, I know graham and I've been slacking for the last couple weeks to didn't get an episode out. But you know, life happens, summer happens. Graham, what up? G?
Graham:What's up, brother? Just loving life, enjoying the weather. It's not too hot yet, but seen a couple movies, watched a lot of G this past week and I'm excited. But other than that, Scott, I got this cold beer right here and I'm pretty thirsty. What do you think? Should we grab one and crack one? I've been waiting.
Scott:Yeah, let's go, let's go. So before we even jump into the Open Championship, you know how was your weekend. You know what'd you do? I mean you just said you watched some golf, hung out in the kiddie pool in the backyard with the roommates. I mean, try to get that albino face a little color on it. You know? I mean what else? I haven't seen some movies.
Graham:I mean hey, I'm getting as dark as you there, playa, so better slow your roll. Yeah, I know anyway. Um, what has been going on? Uh, yeah, just pretty much. You know, relaxing, been job hunting, um, seeingen a couple good movies recently, but really just the big news for me and you know, we'll talk about it later but TJ Watt man finally happened. It's over, don't got to worry about that shit anymore. It's ready for preseason and let's get it going. So that's pretty much what's going on for me over here. What about you, brother?
Scott:You know, same thing Off. Yesterday my sister and nephews in town went to the Norfolk Tides. You know AAA game last night and it was great because they were actually playing the Mets AAA team, the Syracuse Mets, and you know the Mets. Old starting catcher, francisco Alvarez, was in town because he had been slacking. They sent him down for a little assignment. My guy hit 12 home runs in I guess 15 games. Actually, last night at the game we were at, didn't hit one, but hit one today and hit it literally over the batter's eye in center field, Straight away, dead center, talking about bomb and after the game got recalled back up to the nets. So fun time, you know.
Scott:Woke up morning, watched a little golf and you know I mean let's just jump right into it, dude. Uh, I don't even know what to say. I mean you and I were talking about it last night. I mean this dude is something else and yeah, everybody's comparing him to Tiger and you know it's close dude. I mean I'm not saying close to Tiger, I mean he's got four majors. Tiger had what? What did Tiger finish with? 15? Yeah, but what my guy has done in this little amount of time is Tiger-esque. Yeah, but what my guy has done in this little amount of time is tiger-esque. You know, yes, I mean just to before you even go into it.
Scott:You probably didn't see the first hole today because it was so early West Coast time, but dude, they come out. On the first hole today my guy's got a four-shot lead. He's playing with the Chinese dude, hal Tong Li or whatever his name is, and my guy Li stuffs it in to like four feet. Okay, on the first hole his approach shot and what's Scheffler do? Oh, he knocks it inside the leather dude Like tap in, cleans his ball ball, marks it, taps it in like it was, like everybody's, like oh, whole time lee's going out, he's gonna make force and scotty's like yeah, bro, hang on, guy. You know I'm just gonna hit this dick tight and let's just keep moving on.
Graham:I mean, don't forget about me over here.
Scott:Greatest iron player in the game, maybe history, at the way we're going right now.
Graham:I mean, it's early and it's a crazy to say it's early after you have four major championships already. But you know, listening to the commentary on the Golf Channel after, after it was over, just all the comparisons that they're trying to make, and it's just, you know, they said it pretty clearly it's just like look, yes, he's dominating in a sense, like how tiger was, but it's just, it's a completely different feel, it's a completely different way that he's coming going about it. You know what I mean.
Scott:I'll say this though the players right now are stronger than what they were when tiger was dominating oh, facts a hundred percent that's what's crazy that's what's crazy.
Graham:Right, they were showing a lot of examples of what a lot of people were so mystified with. Tiger was you know? Yes, what he brought to the game and all that stuff I'm not talking about that, but just his game itself was a lot of. It was just the miraculous shots that he had to come up with. Right, we could do a whole hour on just the shots. Yeah, that he hit. But you know, as I've mentioned in previous episodes, the thing with scotty is you don't have to hit those shots exactly he's been so consistent and dialed in.
Graham:He's like why would I need to hit that? I'm in the fairway, why would I you know what I mean like I'm not all the way over there. I don't have this bad lie in the bunker, I'm not six miles right of right yeah, you know what I mean.
Graham:And when, when he is, he takes his medicine, gets out of it, takes a par and says, all right, let's go, Just no big deal. And just watching him play it's almost like the nonchalance, but I mean it's not. He's just so calm and so dialed in. And plus, I mean the biggest thing during this whole week of the tournament from what he was saying in interviews before, during and after, is he made it very clear what golf means to him and where it stands in his life. It don't matter. You know what I mean, and it's just like there's a lot of people that hear that no-transcript.
Scott:It doesn't matter. Now you know he celebrates for two minutes and moves on. That's easy to say when you have that many zeros in your bank account. You've won multiple majors. Think about is he saying that if he's grinding for his PGA tour card for next year?
:that if he's grinding for his PGA Tour card for next year.
Scott:Oh, you know what I mean. I mean I hate to play devil's advocate, but yes, I appreciate Scotty, I appreciate what he's doing out there because you know he made that double today on I don't know, it was either seven or eight where he tried to hit that shot out of the bunker. And what's he do? He followed it up with what? A birdie on nine. Yeah, I mean, like you said earlier, he don't miss many fairways and it's insane, dude. I mean it's fun to watch and I finally you know me as a golf pro who's made my life around the sport of golf in the back of my mind I've always been like all right, yeah, we're witnessing something special, we're witnessing something special. But when he did what he did on Friday and shot 64, I finally stuck it up and was like all right, this dude is the deal. Oh and, and started looking up some crazy stats and dude from 2022 to 2025 for Scotty versus tiger 20,.
Scott:2002 to 2005. Scotty's played in the 81 events. Tiger 79. Scotty's got 20 wins, four majors, two players, championships. Tiger had 79 events, 18 wins, four majors, zero players. Both of them are 2.8 strokes gain. Dude, they're both incredible. Okay, incredible, with Scotty's win today 10 in a row with a 54-hole lead. You know how many Tiger had after a 54-hole lead winning in a row. Nah, hit me with it, let's try 37. 37.
Graham:How about this?
Scott:Go back to that last stat you were talking about and just really explain more of the importance of the strokes gained, because a lot of people don't know what that means and I knew you were going to ask that tonight, so I kind of researched it Because I don't have the 100 exact definition of it. Right, right it's. It's basically where you are in the fairway versus where your approach lands on the green, versus how many putts it takes you to get it in. Okay, it's not a green and regulation. Okay, right, a green and regulation is just a stat. Right, it's.
Scott:Did I hit the fairway? Yes, did I hit the green? Yes, but what scotty's doing is incredible, especially at a venue like royal port rush, where there's not a shit ton of bunkers notice, we didn't see a lot of the carnage and bunkers right, like we normally see in the open championship. It's all about fairways. And what does scotty do? He hits fairways. And what is he? The best iron player in the game. I mean, for instance, yesterday, 600 plus yard par five. Granted, it was downwind, but my guy hits his drive 380 in the fairway. He's got 220, and he hits eight iron and controls the distance. Thanks for playing. Yeah, that's part of it, dude, it's not about bombing it. You got to control your distance on your second shot.
Scott:You know you got to get it close, especially when it's downwind like this, and dude the guy's control with his irons. It just like I mean, if he putted as well as Tiger he'd be like.
Graham:Jack who.
Scott:Dude, and Rory has gotten to be the most bitter betty person on the planet for suggesting Scotty to go into the spider putter amount. I mean because that was all Rory's idea and after that happened it was like good night world. I mean, my boy, kia Ma, down at Taylor made is like. I talked to him the other day. He's making your boy one too, by the way, right now. I'll be here this week. Uh, dude, I'm like dude, what in the hell? And he goes. You know it's the best putter out there. I mean, look at the guy, look at the guy. It's changed. And now how many people I know he won, won the PGA and you know, won the master's last year. How many people you think are out there on the practice screens right now trying to putt with the claw grip right now?
Graham:trying to putt with the claw grip. I dude, I don't want to say everything is a fad, but I mean it's gonna happen. Once you see someone be consistent or I don't see be consistent, someone go from an okay putter to oh, you made a change, and now this works, and now your consistency went up and now you're winning tournaments like, oh well, if it works for him, it might work for me. I mean, if you're gonna say that, how about matt fitzpatrick doing the low hand with a chip?
Scott:hey, the cross all week? Yeah, I was literally. It's so funny you bring that up because one of my assistants at my club. I was talking to him about it friday at work the last time I was at augusta I literally watched fitzpatrick for like five holes. You know, practice around they're hitting shots from all over the place and they're on. He's hitting pitch shots and shit around the greens and I literally followed him for four holes by myself just because I wanted to see. You know, it's augusta, dude, you got the fastest greens, you got these undulations, you got to hit your spot and fitzpatrick's just nipping everything. Yeah, vj was one of the first people to do it back in the day, but, dude, it's wild.
Scott:And you know another performance by Fitzpatrick. You know good tournament. You know, I don't know, dude, all I can say is this Scottie, he's 29 years old. Okay, he has three legs of the career Grand Slam before 30. Shot all rounds this week in the 60s. Gary Player, jack, nicklaus, tiger and now Scotty are the only four people to exactly win the Masters, pga and Open before age 30. There's eight people to win three legs of the Grand Slam before the age of 30. Yep, but only four that have won those exact events right. But here's the kicker dude. And here's the thing, and I heard this this afternoon and I was talking to you about it. You know the US Open next year is at Shinnecock Amazing venue, historic venue, and it finishes this US Open Sundays on June 21st. We all know the history US Open always finishes on Father's Day. But not only is it Father's Day, but guess what, it's Scotty's 30th birthday.
Graham:Close to my sister's birthday, shout out.
Scott:I'm just going to say I'll take Scotty for the win for a thousand, Alex.
Graham:Oh, as of right now.
Scott:I just looked it up it's plus 320. What Plus 320. That's crazy low.
Graham:Has his odds for a major ever been that low?
Scott:I think it's the same for Augusta next year. I mean it's a golf tournament, dude Plus 320.
Graham:Yeah, and folks, shinnecock is no walk in the park, plus 320 there.
Scott:Yeah and folks. Shinnecock is no walk in the park like it's plus 320, dude what?
Graham:oh my god Shinnecock hey, maros, long Island right yeah yeah, no it is.
Scott:so listen to this Scotty. Since 2020, he's 111 under par in the majors 46 shots better than anyone else in that span any sport.
Graham:I, I get it. I get it, but I tell you what and and I'm not even saying it like when we used to talk about, like, the difference between jack and tiger, I mean it's all different because a lot of that had to do with you know the equipment, you know the clubs, the balls, like all that stuff. So that's not really even a fair comparison.
Scott:But I mean, in this day and age, man, in this day and age, the players are better no, no for sure, no, no.
Graham:What I was going to say was it's just like. In this day and age it's an easier comparison, but it's just like just to imagine. Look, I loved watching, you know, the tiger, phil, you know for all those years. Or even, or the big easy, um, vj and stuff. But, dude, just to imagine any of the majors, because they're all different, but Scottie and Tiger going head-to-head, just two studs in their own right, but the difference in their games. But it's just wow, just imagining what that would look like, especially if they both had. It's just wow, just imagining what that would look like, especially if they both had it that week, just to see what would happen. You know, type of a thing.
Scott:Like longtime caddy for Nicholson Bones said I read this to you last night. You know he's caddy for Nicholson forever and then went and caddy for JT for a little while. He said never in my life would I ever imagine to watch a player do what I watched Tiger do and we're watching it. Part of Tiger Was the intimidation factor.
Graham:Oh, I can go down a limb and say it's more than a part. To be honest, I would say that's 35%.
Scott:And what Tiger did For the game of golf. Right, the intimidation factor. I heard this the other day. Everybody on the live tour Should be thanking Tiger for what he did to golf. Yeah, oh, 100%.
Graham:This the other day everybody on the live tour Should be thinking tiger for what he Did to golf. Yeah, oh, 100%. I mean, bro, I got two words For you. Have you ever heard of the guy Named Stephen Ames? I mean.
Scott:Talking Trash and the match play and then Gets boat raced to At La Costa yeah 10 and 8 like I mean what to speak in a live and where players go to die?
Scott:Cam Smith, dude, I'm not going to dog on him long, but Cam Smith is the only player this year to play in all four majors and then miss the cut in all four majors. And this is a guy that won the Open at St Andrews, won the players the same year, 2022. Irrelevant yeah, majors. And this is a guy that won the open at st andrews, won the players the same year, 2022, irrelevant.
Graham:Yeah, I, I don't want to keep him in a haunt. We talked about this last night and you know I'll bring it up. I'm gonna asterisk this and air quote this. When it comes to him, he was, I'm going to say, on top of the world. But I mean, after winning those majors, he was consistent, he was in the top 10 on the PGA tour. He was doing his thing. That's great. The whole live thing and what we've said in previous episodes. It all comes down to, as the individual, what they want in life and, honestly, this is kind of a good correlation. I mean, look at Scotty. Scotty said point blank golf isn't everything. He's like I play golf. He's like I would do this for no money. The fact that I am making money and I see it on my bank account, yeah, that's nice. But I just come out here to compete because I love money.
Scott:I would say I don't do it for the money too. If I had $150 million in the bank. Pretty easy to say that when you got generational wealth for your kids, grandkids, grandkids, grandkids, to never have to lift a finger and you're good to go.
Graham:I understand that, but has Tiger ever said that he hasn't had to? I'm just saying.
Scott:I'm just saying Like I said last night, I don't argue about the older players that went to live. Right, brendan Steele, a buddy of mine, you know, hendrick Stinson, sergio, these types of players, like I always called it the 401k for pga tour players, right, a guy like cam smith. You know john rom, thought he was going to be the guy that was the person that got everybody to switch to live tour and instead, you know he's officially dead to me after his t for 34th finish today, when I had him in a parlay to finish top 30 and playing the easiest golf course, easiest conditions at the Open Championship on the weekend that we've seen in a while. And thanks, john Rom. You know, have fun.
Scott:You know T for 34. You're dead to me. Never bet on you again. Appreciate it. But anyhow, let's talk about somebody on the live tour that is a shining star and that does move the needle and literally is the only one on the live tour that moves the needle and that's none other than Bryson yeah, I mean my boy. Bryson shoots 78 in the first round, plays the last three rounds 16 under.
Graham:Yeah, thanks for my DeChambeau bet to miss the cut. Thanks for going out and shooting 8 under on Friday, jackass Dude, or 7 under, whatever it was, like my bad 16 under in the last 54 holes out at the open.
Graham:I'll say that that performance I mean look, we thought he was already going to be in anyway, but dude, that performance there and Keegan saw it I mean for him to shoot the plus eight day one right, it was either plus eight or plus seven day one and then for him to come back and do that was just like okay, yeah, you're on the team. It's unofficially official Bryson.
Scott:I heard an interview after Friday's round when he made the cut he was like after the first round. He was like I was just like I'm ready to go home, I'm done. And then he was like nope, my parents, everybody taught me don't give up till it's over. Thumbs out and grind. Yeah, and that was the story about Bryson heading into this week was. You know, everybody knows he plays these same length irons. He hits the ball to the moon. You know he's a fast swing, speed guy. I don't know if anybody saw the highlights of him with the side hill lie. It was like the ball was on a t-ball. He's playing t-ball, remember. His pitching wide is the same length as his seven iron. I believe that ain't easy and that was the main focus going into him. He ended this week with him is. You know? That's why you and I both bet bryson to miss the cut and we're both like air high-fiving from chesapeake, virginia to nevada after the 78 we're like let's go.
Scott:I'm like Graham, did you take the bet? You're like hell, yeah, I did. I'm like let's go. And then the asshole goes out and shoots you know nothing on Friday and we're just like you know is he going to be. But you know, dude Rory, it's not even a doubt. Yeah, rory's second time playing Royal Port Rush, basically in his hometown, went a lot better than the first time in 19, where he missed the cut. I mean remember in 19, rory's opening tee shot of the event. He hit it out of bounds.
Graham:There was a bunch of players that almost hit it out of bounds. Dude day one with that wind yeah and rain yeah.
Scott:Well for Rory. I mean Rory had a good finish and he said it in his interview. You know he goes. It was a good performance. He goes Scottie's just on another planet and he is. But the best thing about rory dude. How about that shot yesterday when he drove it in the rough and he actually hit a ball that was embedded underneath his golf ball? How insane was that. I mean it was wild. It's happened before and I don't remember who it was, but that was wild. I mean the look on his face, the announcers, they're all like what the? It was sick. And I do have to give a shout out to my boy, smiley Kaufman.
Graham:Yeah, what happened with that? I saw something.
Scott:Dude Smiley for everybody out there, if you don't listen to to the smiley podcast, go listen to it because it's sick. But smiley had a hot mic and somebody forget who it was was taking so long on the green. He thought he was not on air and he just goes. What the fuck like? Very quiet, it wasn't loud, you know, wasn't loud at all and of he had to come out with the apology.
Graham:Of course, of course. But look, it's situations like that that we need, because, hey, pace of play is not the greatest on tour right now. So a little recognition is not that bad.
Scott:Dude pace of play. How about like five hours and 45 minutes for the last couple groups on Thursday and Friday?
Graham:I mean, does that not add to the difficulty of trying to win a tournament and going down the road just sitting?
Scott:there waiting.
Graham:It's the worst.
Scott:Oh for sure, the best rounds of golf I've ever played were me and my boy BT, out at goose Creek, tn. Off, when it's literally dark, yeah, and nobody's in front of us, and when you play 18 holes of golf and basically three hours, why you ain't thinking you're hitting shot, hitting shot, you're hitting shot, you're hitting shot.
Graham:Now you add a major championship and this long and it's this much pressure, a grind, and it's like, oh yeah, it's bad now, I know you don't play a lot of solo rounds, maybe, maybe even a solo nine, but like if it was just you and and I'm not saying this like asking, like if you're trying to speed, but you're just playing your game like how, how long are you getting through a 9 or an 18 by yourself on a cart?
Scott:if I'm just, you know, normally when I go out solo and I'm playing just nine holes or whatnot, I'm hitting a couple shots, yeah, okay. But you know, and mike tree, who was on our episode a couple weeks ago when I was playing stuff, he used to always tell me when you go out by yourself, always play the game, play two balls, play your three wood versus your driver off every tee. And that's what I do Interesting, yeah, the funny thing is three wood always went, but it's hilarious. But you know, if I, if I went out there, if I went out there and played like from start to finish, just playing one golf ball, yeah, myself, nobody hold me up I could play nine holes at my club in an hour and 15 minutes. Yeah, sounds about right, easily, easily dude, I've.
Graham:I remember there was a couple guys at the club that I worked at in New York that when I caddy for them and I'm saying like walking, we finished two and a half yeah.
:Dude you know what I mean.
Scott:BT and I at Goose Creek, we would literally tee off in the summer. I couldn't even see my golf ball. I mean, it's dark First out and, like range finder, ain't even getting the pin on the first hole because it's dark. But, dude, we would tee off at 6 30 and we'd be done 8 45 two of us, dude.
Graham:I remember our club champion at the time. He would come and just play, like do quick rounds on a card. I just you know I didn't even need to four caddy, like he would just keep hitting it in the fairway like there was no point. So I would just like be on the cart with him. We did 18 holes I on a cart, I think, in like an hour and 40 hour, 45 minutes and dude and he shot one over. Like it's amazing what happens when you hit the fairway Hit the green, two putt, go on to the next hole.
Scott:Why? Because you're not thinking.
Graham:Yeah, 100% You're not thinking.
Graham:Bang, bang, boom go. Getting back to Scottie you mentioned, I wrote it down. You hit one of the two stats. There's one that I don't want to say that you missed, but I saw it on the TV and it has to be said. Scottie's one that I won't say that you missed, but I saw it on the TV and it just kind of it has to be said. Scotty's one of three players in the last 100 years. Folks, let's think about that. Out of all the golfers that have played in the last hundred years, he's one of three players to win four majors by three strokes or more. What, and I mean, should I even ask who you think the other two were? I mean, it's just that obvious. Well, I know Tiger's one of them.
Scott:Yeah, the third person, is it Jack? Yeah, it is. Yeah, yeah, it was funny today, you know, with Scotty winning in Ireland, he said and the announcer said it was kind of like back in the day when Jack beat Arnie at Oakmont in the playoff, you know Arnie's from Pennsylvania and the whole world was pulling for Arnie and Scotty said today he goes. Everybody was obviously pulling for Rory. It was weird, he goes. Everybody was obviously pulling for Rory. It was weird, he goes. It was weird and he goes. Yeah, I did hear some you know USA chants and some Texas chants and this and that, but you know it was weird. And I loved at the end when the announcers were all like trying to, you know, get Scotty to go. Yeah, I'm going out and Royal port rush tonight with the trophy, like Lowry did in 1921, obviously Lowry and Irish guy and Scotty was just like I can't wait to be on my couch. It was yeah.
Graham:But didn't Scotty just refreshment? Was it after the masters that he went out to the bar, his local bar? When he got home and celebrated?
Scott:That was spawned.
Graham:No, no, no, not this year Spawned oh. No, like two years ago, because we talked about it.
Scott:Probably. Yeah, he was, because Scotty's from Dallas. Yeah, he showed up somewhere. Yeah, he's been a member of Royal Oaks forever, since he was a little kid. Once again same coach, randy Smith. I mean dude.
Graham:You know, one thing that I heard in his interview, like the official interview after it was over he said something that kind of was just like you know folks, it's like if you want to be good at something, you need to put in all your effort. And the thing that he said was I've always wanted to be a professional golfer. And in doing that he knew that on the PGA Tour they all wear pants. Like you have to wear pants. So when he was younger he would wear pants in the heat in Texas and everyone used to make fun of him, yep, but he's like you know what I'm just training myself for when that time comes. And when he said that I was like what?
Scott:You know the crazy thing about Scotty and I and I've done a lot of diving into him and if you listen to the Subpar podcast, colt Nose is from that area, been a member at Royal Oaks forever. Colt Nose is obviously a US amateur champion played on the tour this and that Dude. Scotty was at Royal Oaks watching and looking up to all these dudes from Dallas at Royal Oaks on the range just absorbing it all. And Scotty won like a million junior golf tournaments, like over 150 junior golf tournaments. Went to Texas, didn't have the most amazing college resume. You know he won tournaments and stuff and everybody's like where did this guy come from? And they're like he finally grew into it.
Scott:Everybody says the motivation and the confidence that scotty got was when he was a captain's pick on the rider cup team that played at whistling street and on that sunday singles match he was paired up and his match was against rom and he drummed rom and after that it was like game over and that's what gave him the belief in himself. I mean, dude, his first 70 pga tour starts zero wins. If next 80, 17 wins, two Masters, four Majors, two players and a gold medal.
Graham:I mean, you know, as you're talking, I'm just looking at the final leaderboard right now. Obviously, the weather wasn't a factor, because— it was the first two days. No, no, no, I'm saying this final round Like this final round. I mean, I'm not counting Every individual, but there's Less than 10 people out of 70 that shot over par.
Scott:Right, it was easier. Conditions for Sunday, for sure.
Graham:And the worst part is Surprising numbers, john Wrong for sunday for sure, like it was, I mean and the worst part is it's just like surprising numbers yeah, john ron, plus four on wrong. Well, john ron, you asked that I wasn't even bringing him up, I swear to god, but it's just like but I am, because it was easy and he was a favorite for everybody.
Scott:John ron, john ron, he's playing great.
Graham:I know know, hey, I bet it too there, homie, I bet it there too, go hang out at a bull race in Spain, you asshat, but I'm just looking at these scores. You know, Lowry minus five today. What else we got? Dude McNeely minus five today.
Scott:Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, can we talk?
Graham:about our boy. He was the next one on the list. I was just going slowly up.
Scott:He should have been the fucking first Fowler with a 6'5" with two bogeys. Let's go.
Graham:Let's go, brother, hey congratulations, Romance.
Scott:I mean, let's just talk about this. I was looking it up. Yeah, go ahead. I hate to bring it up because I hate it, because he's my boy, Dude Fowler 21 birdies this week. Guess where that leaves him in birdies made Tied for first.
:Yeah, you already know, because I told you yeah, tied for first, tied for first, yeah you already know, because I told you yeah, yeah, tied for first tied for first dude, you clean up a few holes which, unfortunately, say the other stat I mean he shot 65 with two bogeys today, 30 on the back nine.
Scott:I mean his pars he had 39 pars, that's t65, bogeys, 11 t41 and then doubles. He had one t35. Hey, he's trending. Oh, of course he is. Like I told you, I talked to romance after the round and they weren't playing in minnesota this coming week, the 3M. But because they played well, they decided let's go Ride the hot hand. He got those valuable FedExCup points. He's now in the top 70. So he's playing in Memphis as of right now. But you know what? Let's go. Let's go dude.
Graham:Amazing With how he's been playing. I mean I would think shooting 6 six under has something to do with it. Yeah, six under DeChambeau. Seven under today. Yep, harris English. Five under today. Wyndham Clark I got banned from Oakmont Shot. Six under today. I mean there's some good scores. Matsuyama five under Fleetwood I thought you were going to do better. Five under, I mean, fleetwood. I thought you were going to do better in this tournament, but you still ate. Fleetwood still finished minus seven. You know, tied for 16. I mean, I ain't mad at it.
Scott:What did Rom shoot today? I forgot Uh, minus exactly Nobody even cares.
Graham:I knew you were setting me up.
Scott:I knew it, dude. I mean I mean come on, dude.
Graham:The one thing that I will say is Mr Consistent, this year former, you know, us Open winner JJ Spahn, shot three under today, two finish minus two. So at least he finished under par for the tournament. You know, tie for 40th that's fine, but I mean the way the Ryder Cup is setting up. There's going to be some questions From the captain, and we talked about this last night With Keegan's performance this week. If he doesn't Pick himself, it's a slap in the face To not only himself as a player but to Team USA.
Scott:I'm just going to tell you this right now. I'm going to tell you this right now the players that are in the top six, that are automatically on the team, they are not going to allow him not to pick himself.
Graham:No, I know he's in it. I'm just worried about the next six.
Scott:He's playing dude. He's 100% playing Right Now. Colin Morikawa and Patrick Cantlie yeah, they've got experience playing in the Ryder Cup. I really hope they're not playing Wait hold on a second.
Graham:I just saw something. Did you see who finished T59? I know that sounds Dude, old-ass. Justin Leonard. Yeah, how good is that. He was even par after three rounds and shot plus two today. But still for a guy that doesn't play tournament golf anymore to shoot to not only make the cut but then finish it two over my apologies, I mean.
Scott:Yeah, he beat Victor Hovland, who I bet on.
Graham:I'm just looking at the score right now too.
Scott:Yep, oh, that is hilarious lee westwood's old ass made the cut dude. Yeah, tied, john rom. Yeah, here's the question. Did lee westwood have the ups logo on his shirt this week?
Graham:you know, I watched him tee off and play a few holes round one. I don't remember if I saw it. I don't know, you know it's. He's one of those guys like I know it won't happen I mean you can never say never but like I know it won't happen now. But if there ever was someone that could literally pull a miracle four rounds out of their ass For what he's went through in his career, how amazing it would be for Westwood to actually finally get a major under his belt. That ain't happening. No, I mean, I know it's not, I mean it's. I mean he's the our version of Colin Montgomery. I get it Granted, colin Montgomery dominated on the European tour Versus Westwood. But I'm just saying like For a guy to be right, I mean he, 10-15 years ago, lee Westwood Was in the thick of it All the time. I mean he was the top 15 player. I'm not saying you're wrong.
Scott:You know what I mean. So I'm looking at Ryder Cup standings. It obviously has not been updated right after this event, but you know our top six scotty xander spawn, henley de chambeau and justin thomas are the top six as of right now. All six players that you would think would be on the team, right? I mean, yeah, then seven through 12, or morikawa, ben griffin, keegan, harris english, mcneely, brian harman, andrew novak at 13 and and Sam Burns at 15. I mean Keegan, I want him, harris, english, I want him. Yep, sam Burns, I want him, just because of the way he putts.
Scott:Could, you make a case for McNeely.
Graham:I don't know Just his consistency. And look compared to last Ryder Cup. I feel like I'm a little shakier on the six captain picks than I was at the previous time. But thinking of it right now, one of the biggest things in sports, especially in football, basketball, baseball it's not as much, but the home field advantage. I really think at Bethpage with the hometown crowd and the New Yorkers there, everyone that's going to be talking shit that our team will be top-heavy. I still think the environment that will be curated is just going to elevate people's games.
Scott:Well, like we were talking last night, you know about the captain's picks and the veterans and people who have experience. I want the opposite dude. I want the young guy, ben Griffin. I want that guy. Yeah, my guy was selling mortgages two years ago.
Graham:And now, what's he doing? Now what's he doing? That's insane.
Scott:Would you rather have Ben Griffin or Colin? I fire my caddy every two weeks. Morikawa Three years ago. We all know the pick Right now.
Graham:A year and a half ago. We know the pick.
Scott:Would you rather have and this is a tough one right now would you rather have, brian I waggle my club 37 times Harmon or Patrick?
Graham:Stantley. Well, I mean, I love how you're bringing that up because you know how I feel, but just for the podcast sake, fuck Brian Harmon, I'll take my chances with Cantley Dude. I know, look. Yeah, you said. Look, this is Bethpage. It's 78,000 fucking yards, mister, I can't hit it 300 off the tee.
Scott:No, I don't want guess what.
Graham:Yeah, he hits it straight and he puts the dimes out of it. I yeah. And if it was a scramble or well, no, they do best, or uh? Alternate shot oh yeah, okay, yes, strategically and alternate side, I could get away with that. But what happens on day three when you're playing individual matches?
Scott:who cares you? Fairway somebody to death. I mean, let's just jump right in the european team standings as of last week. Yeah, go ahead, just think of their top six. And as I'm announcing this, remember who's not included Rory Fleetwood, Big Bob Hatton, Sepp Straka and Lowry. Okay, that doesn't include Rose. That doesn't include Ludwig Sovlin, the guy that's dead to me. John Rahm's down there in the standings at 20th. So that's one, two, three. Those four are definitely on the team. Oh, and let's don't forget, at 22nd, Matt Fitzpatrick. There's five captains fixed right there.
Graham:Oh, matt Fitzpatrick, 100% is on the team.
Scott:So who's the sixth? Dietrich Rasmus Hohrgaard, Thomas Dietrich Aaron.
Graham:Rye Dude Hohrgaard has been playing Consistent, and not only that, he was one putt away.
Scott:He was a putt yesterday on the 18th hole, away from being paired up with his brother For the final round Of the Open Championship. What yeah, insane, insane, wow, yeah, his brother, nikolai, is 30th in the standings. But I mean, we all know Rose, luda, avlin, brom and Fitzpatrick are on the team, without a doubt. I'm low-key, worried about this.
Graham:No, you're not. You're more than low-key. Don't lie to me, folks. If you can see the look on his face right now, I mean I don't know yeah. Dude, I really think that, and what I was saying earlier the home field advantage at Bethpage in New York is going to really ignite the fire under Team USA. Like I really do, like I said five minutes ago, we're kind of top heavy, but the top heavy yeah, dude, our top heavy is how many of those players are in the top 10?
Scott:In the world. Yeah, no, I mean Scotty, obviously number one. Yeah, Roy, I mean Scotty obviously number one. Yeah, Roy is number two. And remember, the world rankings are all bullshit because of those guys that went over and played the three rounds. Right, right, you know, but I don't know.
Graham:Yeah, I mean, it is what it is. I'm just saying, like, I tell you one thing the closer this gets, the more infuriating it is to know that you're not going to fucking be there with me, Because me and my boy are going to be sitting right there in the stands right behind the first tee box in 18th Green, right there and loving life. We're going to be getting live updates.
Scott:I just I already told you, if rom doesn't come in the top 30, I was paying for your bail because yeah, you know, my 30 bet to win 70 is going to be a lot cheaper than your bail in long island, new york. When you run out and cross body block on rom and say why don't you go to a goddamn bull run or something in spain, you asshat, I mean just saying let's go.
Graham:Just hey, man, I'm not trying to get banned from all future events, bro, oh you're not.
Scott:Just don't leave a bald guy sticker anywhere on the best page.
Graham:I don't know about that, but yeah.
Scott:Oh my God, I don't know. I think the captain's picks have to be announced before the tour championship. I believe We've got two regular season events left the 3m and then something in greensboro, north carolina, and then the first round of the fedex cup playoffs are in memphis, wow. The second round of the fedex is, that is, in, uh, maryland, the bmw at caves valley. Your boy may or may not be able to get up there. I've got a member at our club, his brother's the head pro there. Oh Jesus, yeah, but. And then obviously the tour championship is where it is, but you know, with and then it's stressful times.
Graham:They changed it this year. I know we talked about it, but they changed it this year. I know we talked about it, but they changed. They're not doing the strokes advantage again for the tour championship right it's just regular.
Scott:Yeah, it's just regular, but something's gonna change. They haven't said what. I mean, like we said this year, next year's oh, there's no straight. I mean, like said last year, as much as we both love Keegan, he won the one event at Castle Pines and then that was his only win and then he can go win the tour championship and win. Yeah, it's going to be something. Who knows what it's going to be?
Graham:I mean there is some merit to the scoring system the way they have it, because it's like dude. How can you be the player of the year if you just sneak in for each event? You know what I mean, right, I agree.
Scott:I agree. Like, imagine Fowler goes out, wins FedEx in Memphis and he finishes 65 to qualify for FedEx. Then he wins. Then he goes to the BMW top five and then goes to a championship and wins, and he wins the FedEx Cup playoffs. I mean I'd be happy as shit. But, romano, you better be flying your boy somewhere, because we going to party, I mean, and hopefully when we're partying your boy ain't getting robbed for 800, and if that ain't, a real.
Scott:If that ain't a real, it's gonna be, and I'm sending it directly to him got him, let's change it up real quick. I mean real quick. We're already 50 minutes into this episode. Training camp started this past week, started as first team to report Because we obviously play in the Hall of Fame game. You know why is that.
Graham:Why's what I was throwing a shot, why you're playing in the Hall of Fame game.
Scott:Oh, because Antonio Gates wasn't a in the Hall of Fame game. Oh, because Antonio Gates wasn't a first ballot Hall of Famer, because I guess everybody that votes for that is blind, dumb and retarded. But that's just another. You know Anyhow Mike Williams signs with the Jets. Last year Did he get traded to you guys? Yeah, Y'all traded for him, right? Yeah, at the deadline, yeah. And then signs with the Chargers as a free agent.
Graham:Dude, he caught a touchdown. The first game, the first game, right, yeah, I think it was against the Jets. It might have been, I think it was.
Scott:And then he comes back, signs a one-year deal with the Chargers. Everybody's fired up because of the continuity between him and Herbert. He's a 50-50 ball guy the ex-receiver and then starts camp out on the PUP list and then day two retires. Weird, it is what it is. I'm sad because I like mike dubb, because you've seen it, kellen has a glove from mike dubb that he gave him from a game and my guy wears like size four extra large gloves. It's insane. You've seen it. It's like my god. If my guy's glove is that big, could you imagine never?
Scott:mind mom uh, finally, your boy tj gets paid. You know gonna be the highest defensive player paid in the league until Micah Parsons gets paid. You know the scenario. It's like oh, blah, blah, blah, blah, he's going to be the highest, then he's going to be the highest, yeah. But Dude, what are the Cowboys doing? Why have they not signed his mother? I, the Bengals, like Henderson, you're letting him run around free. I mean, your first round draft pick, you took 17-18 overall. He ain't signed. Yeah, you got Jamar Chase and Higgins, but remember, last year you scored like 35 a game and gave up like 37 a game. You know.
Graham:What I'm going to say about Cincinnati, and it's just this is off the top of my dome right now, is it? I guess I got a question for you as the owner of an organization. For you as an owner of an organization, wouldn't you think a goal for your organization would be to put the best team out there to give you a chance to win, and the ultimate goal would be to win a Super Bowl? Or are you just going to be someone that says, hey, I got a team, whether it be through the family or however, I got it, I got the team and look, if we do, good, great. If we don't, it is what it is and I'm just going to keep trucking like I like. I almost feel like there's no motivation to win by the upper upper management level well, you're talking to somebody that's a fan of the Chargers.
Scott:Dan Spanos is the owner. Okay, you had Phillip Rivers, who was about as mobile as a motherfucking giraffe and he never made a pick in the draft for offensive linemen. And how good did Phillip do running for his life, not being an athletic guy, you know?
:Yeah.
Scott:Then Herbert gets drafted and you know obviously Harbaugh and Joe Ortiz come in, and what do they do the first two years?
Graham:O-line. You got the biggest O-line in the league.
Scott:And somewhere Rivers is going. Hey guys, remember me, you've hit me on that, but that's where Telesco, you know whatever, palmy T, whatever.
Graham:No, I saw something earlier today. The New Orleans Saints are the only team in the NFL in which their quarterback room has no win in the NFL wow, wow, that's a stat for you when I saw that I was like wait what?
Scott:rewind. Who's their quarterback room, Spencer Rattler. A stat for you. When I saw that, I was like wait what? Alright, rewind. Who's their quarterback room, Spencer Rattler. The car retired.
Graham:Yeah, and then Shuck or whatever the guy named as they drafted.
Scott:Oh, my boy TH is going to put more wins, wow, wow.
Graham:Dying. When I saw that I mean.
Scott:I mean even my boy, mason Rudolph. Yeah, that back in that draft year I told Jerry he's going to be the best one. You know we've talked about this on the show before. I just got this screenshot because he's an idiot. Speaking of which, jerry, your numerology plays today sucked. I'm glad I didn't send them to you because they went one for three.
Graham:Oh, thank the Lord.
Scott:Yeah, he sent them to me way too early and I knew you were still balls deep in your turtle in your bed.
Graham:Oh my God, I know this is rough Dude. I set my alarm this morning to watch it. Got the alarm blaring. I'm like uh, I hit the fucking button, I turn over.
Scott:I texted you and I'm like Fowler Never heard a word from you.
Graham:No, you texted me before my alarm Went off. I set my alarm for 10, my time. I was like, look, I'll catch the last Five Holes, or whatever. To be honest, I didn't think they were going to be done at 11. I thought they were going to be done at like.
Scott:I texted you at 10 30, 10, 30 my time, so 7 30 your time, fowler, 11. I thought they were going to be done at like. I texted you at 10.30. 10.30 my time, so 7.30 your time, fowler.
Graham:Yeah, yeah. Of course. You told me last night oh, get up by 9 am. And I was like, yeah, 10 o'clock should be fine, I hit that button.
Scott:It was over. It was over, I'm aware of that.
Graham:I hit my alarm and then 10 o'clock should be fine. Right, hit that button, it was over, it was over. Yeah, I'm aware of that. I hit my alarm and then I roll over and next thing I know I wake back up and it's 11.30 and I was like son of a bitch.
Scott:But anyhow, as we wrap this show up, I just gotta throw something out there, because I posted it on the bald guy's Instagram last night. The WNBA All-Star game was last night and, yes, I know I can hear Graham in the background going who? And I'm just going to respond to it Heirs, dude, they came out wearing t-shirts that said what is it? Pay us what you owe us, yeah, something like that. Yeah, where is it? Yeah, pay us what you owe us, dude, dude. The league lost $50 million in 2024. And that's with Caitlin Clark being the face of the league.
Graham:You know, I really feel like if they're going to do targeted media like that, they shouldn't be provoking the masses. I really think their slogan should be something to the effect of let's go advertisers. What else do we need to do? Because we've already beaten this topic to death. The portion of pay that they get is far greater than the NBA players, even across all the other sports the women percentage they get more of the percentage of the pie.
Graham:The problem is is the people watching? The reason why the NBA makes so much money is because of the TV contracts, because they know the advertisers are paying the money. If you don't have people watching the events, then therefore advertisers do not want to spend the money on said networks to promote. It's not the league's fault. You need to tell the people hey, watch us and we'll make money. They just haven't gotten there yet. And the problem is, when they do watch, it's to watch one person, that's it. I hate to say it that way, but it's just like they're watching the one person. If there was more Caitlin Clarks out there, then it would be a different story, but that's not the case. And I'm not saying there's not good players in the WNBA. I'm not saying that. I'm just saying that you can't blame the league for the issue in which is Boring. You need I mean.
Scott:my question is I'm just going to throw this out there. Stats came out today for all the All-Star games this year Mm-hmm, okay, major League Baseball All-Star game draws 7.2 million viewers, as most watch all-star event in sports. I mean 4.6 million people watch the NBA all-star game.
Graham:2025, pro Bowl same thing which that's actually pretty good considering.
Scott:They didn't even say what the WNBA was Same, thing, which that's actually pretty good considering.
Graham:They didn't even say what the.
Graham:WNBA was yeah, because Kaitlyn Clark didn't play in the game. She's been hurt. So it's like, dude, I mean, if we're going to pull the curtain back, kind of like how Shane Gillis did at the ESPY Awards, I mean, let's be real, what works works. What doesn't work doesn't work. If people are following one person, it's just like, oh well, we want this, we want this. It's not what you have to do. This is business. You have to show value. If you don't show value value even though you feel like you're deserving of it and I'm not saying that they're not deserving of it, I'm not saying that I'm just saying that you can't complain that you don't make enough money if you can't convince people to watch you you ain't wrong, and as we up tonight, it's that time of the episode.
:Let's go.
Scott:For the hot chick of the week, and Graham and I were back and forth last night. Back and forth. We couldn't figure out who it was going to be. And then I finally figured out who it was going to be.
Graham:Who you sent last night.
Scott:Yeah, I sent you a screenshot and an Instagram post. Yeah, and that's none other than an NFL reporter.
Graham:Oh, I mean, if you didn't know what you thought I was what I thought you were going for the country music singer, the country music singer. Yeah.
Scott:Well, carly Pierce is always up there. Yeah, I mean, just like Amanda Balyonis, she doesn't need to be mentioned. We're gonna go straight Melissa Stark, let's go. I mean, she doesn't need to be mentioned, we're going to go straight Melissa Stark, let's go. I mean, what did I? I looked her up last night. What did I say? She was 52? Yeah, I believe I think she's got a twin 18-year-old girl that are also the Smooches, so she is our hot chick of the week.
Graham:I mean it's not very often we have someone 50-plus as the hot chick of the week. I mean it's not very often we have someone 50 plus as the hot chick of the week. Let's get a little golf clap for her folks, a little golf clap.
Scott:That's a different kind of clap than I'd like to hear, but anyhow, as we wrap up tonight, I hope y'all loved the episode. Fedex Cup playoff right around the corner training camp Graham's losing his shit right now laughing. That could have been the funniest thing I've ever said on this show. I was trying to play it off Graham way to blow that. Love you all and we'll see you next week.
Graham:Scott, it's been a pleasure. I'm glad we were able to get back. Scott, it's been a pleasure, you know, I'm glad we were able to get back to it. Do another episode. I can't believe you couldn't play that off better than that, bro. When you drop fucking haymakers like that, I, dude, you knocked me out. I didn't know what to say right there. I was speechless, and that's why I'm going to knock you out.
Scott:Mama said knock, and that's why I'm gonna knock you out. Mama said knock you out. Little hello, let's go as we leave. Dude, little what's? Scotty sheffield's son, named bennett I think yeah. Yeah, dude, when scotty was on the green with the trophy and his son was running up you know the green and he dropped and fell, I saw a meme that was like oh, daniel Jones has got the ball and falls on the 20. Thought I was going to die, but anyhow, graham, get us out of here.
Graham:Scott, it's always a pleasure doing the podcast with you, especially when you drop bombs like that. And hey, as the best homie always says, Booba.
Scott:Good night friends. Good night, major championships in 2025. Good night, JomRom. You're officially dead to me. Have fun at the bowl races and I hope you get your ass whooped at Beth Page, especially when Graham cross-body blocks you. Love you all. Good night.
:Boomer, brought to you by our friends at Northstar Credit Union and Southern Auto, located in Southeast Virginia.
