Eleven months away changes how you see everything, including the “small stuff.” We sit down with our friend Chris for our 200th episode right after he returns from a marathon Navy deployment, and he doesn’t sugarcoat it. From a fire that wipes out part of the laundry space to the routines that keep sailors sane, Chris explains what life on a ship really looks like when the timeline keeps moving and you still have to deliver every day.

The conversation gets heavier when the crew thinks they’re headed home, then gets redirected back to Fifth Fleet and into the Red Sea. Chris walks us through leading sailors on their first deployment through extensions, frustration, and uncertainty, plus the family strain that comes with missed holidays and missed milestones. He also shares a firsthand, boots-on-the-ground stretch in Saudi Arabia that he calls the worst experience of his life, while still being proud of the work.

Then we swing back into classic Bald Guys energy: golf stories, a quick round of sports trivia, a PGA Championship recap with wild weather and clutch moments, and playoff talk across the NHL and NBA. We even unload on the NFL schedule and what “rest disadvantage” feels like as a fan. If you’re here for military stories, sports talk, or both, hit play, then subscribe, share this with a friend, and leave a review telling us your favorite moment.

200th Episode And Welcome Home

Graham

Welcome to another episode of the Bald Guys on the Bench podcast with your hosts Graham Cohen and Scott Wasco. What's up, everyone? Welcome back to another episode of The Bald Guys on the Bench. Scotty Waaa, its our 200th episode. Can you believe it?

Scott

200. Who would have ever thought? You, me, and my backyard in Winchester drinking beers. And here we are, 200 episodes in. We got a fun one for you. We got a special guest, someone everybody's heard us talk about. Someone that has sacrificed a lot to keep us free. And that is none other than Chris. Chris, welcome to the show. You know what we do. You listen to the show. How do we start it off, brother? I'm gonna let you say it. What do we do?

Chris

Grab one and crack one.

Graham

Let's go!

Scott

Let's go. So, first off, welcome home.

Chris

Oh, thanks, man. It's uh been an adventure to say the least. Dude, 11 months. 11 months. 11 months, three different, I guess you could say, taskings from you know, the people that put us in positions to be successful, depending on how you look at it, you know. Um, so three different campaigns, which that is not normal.

unknown

Yeah.

Chris

Usually do, you know, one, maybe two, for us to do what we had to do.

Scott

Like you said yesterday, it's the longest deployment in the post-Vietnam era.

Chris

It is. That's factual. You can you can Google that. You can it's it's there, it's out there.

Scott

So something, you know, I was telling my dad

Life Aboard Ship When Things Break

Scott

Saturday you got back. Obviously, my dad's been, you know, thinking about you and the fam. Uh, good old T-Bone. Uh, he told me something about there was a fire in the laundry area. I had no idea about this. Like, there's how many people are on your boat?

Chris

Oh, yeah. Uh, about 45. You can't do laundry. What the hell? Yeah, so that is true. There was a fire, took out the laundry, right? Not all of it, though. Not all of it. And you know, true Navy fashion, we you know, we just figured out. We figured out there's always a way, you just gotta find it, right? So they ended up bringing on like portable washers and dryers, and they were in connect boxes and they put them right in the angle carrier. And did it break your normal routine? Yes, it did. Everybody has a routine, that's how you survive. So you have to just adjust. And you know, everybody did. Uh, it actually worked out really well. It wasn't the worst thing in the world. It felt like the worst thing to have a minor inconvenience at that stage of the game. How early was it in the oh, this was like late in the game. This was this was late, late, late, late. The I mean, there was people that were displaced, right? But they found areas for them to sleep, and we moved some stuff around. And did sailors lose all their stuff? Yes. Yes. Like they had the clothes on their back when they woke up brutal with. And, you know, so absolutely brutal. That is so, you know, a lot we had our own little donation um area where people were donating, you know, t-shirts, socks, flight deck gear that we wear, right?

Scott

Educate not only me, Graham, but anybody listening. When you're going on a deployment like this, like how much do you take? Like, how many pairs of underwear do you take? You know what I mean? Like, how how how often do you get to wash clothes? I mean, I I know it sounds funny, but it's true world. Yes.

Chris

No, it's 100% uh a great question. So my rule of thumb is I take 30 and 30, right? I take 30, 30 pairs of underwear, 30 pairs of socks, and I only use 15 of each as a rotating stock, and then I keep the other half, and I call it the uh the mid-cruise swap out, right? Uh you know, you you gotta you gotta get rid of the old fleet, put the new fleet in the mix, right?

Scott

I was gonna say, hey, bro, I don't I don't own 30 pairs anywhere. I'm just gonna go out there and say that.

Chris

Yeah. So like you don't break into it unless you have to. Because there is times when the laundry would go down or you just haven't been you're so busy, you're not able to just go do your laundry. Um, we have the ability, you know, you can wash your laundry every day if you wanted. For me, I have my own area where we can go in whenever we want. The E6 and below, they have to sign up. Uh so they, you know, they do it once every once a week, once every two weeks. It all depends on what you want to do.

Scott

Yeah, that makes sense. You know, makes sense. I just that was not in the nose. I was just like, hot dang, what do you take?

Chris

I mean, for me, I take, you know, I have a lot of lot of stuff. So I just sat all of my stuff back uh yesterday. I went and picked it up. You know, I have a giant box that's got my body wash, all all of that stuff, my regular clothes, and then all of my work stuff. And that's gonna take it'll take me about a week to get through all that because I wash everything all over again. Right right? Because you just do um, and then you know, I take all of my dress uniforms, I take them to the dry cleaner. It, you know, that costs me 85 bucks. But I get them all done, you know, get them all cleaned up, and then you start fresh, you know.

Scott

Um so just to jump into another subject, you were a member at my last club in Virginia, and we hit it off, obviously, because of the Met. The Mets, God damn. Our suffering fandom of the amazings. But uh, you know, we've been boys, we've gone on golf trips,

Extensions And The Sudden Redirect

Scott

we've had a blast together. I consider you one of my best friends, obviously. And same with the family, but as you were gone, you left in what June? June 24th, to be exact.

Chris

Yep.

Scott

How long were you supposed to be gone?

Chris

We were supposed to come back February 7th, right around that range. Right. Give it take a day or two, but it was around February. We were supposed to be back.

Scott

Wasn't that right around when a lot of shit went down?

Chris

Yeah. So we we were down uh in the Caribbean operating down there, and you know, we we had the operation down there where you know we had to do what we had to do and get somebody that needed to be taken care of, right? So, you know, after that, we were we were like, oh man, let's go. This is great. Yeah, like we're we're done. Wrap it up, right? Let's we had like one little exercise that we had to do, and that was pretty much like, hey, knock this out, and then we're done. And it was to it's like an exercise that you have to show what the ship is actually capable of doing, right? So it involves us, the air wing, and we killed it. We absolutely crushed it. We beat all the metrics, like anything that they threw at us, we took care of it. So we were like, oh man, we put a bow on this for like two weeks, we're gonna be home two weeks, it's gonna be great. And then uh, you know, I was getting ready, I walked air crew on airplanes, and like 15 minutes later, they canceled the flight schedule. And I was like, oh man, like that ain't good. They cut off the communication to the from the ship. And I was like, oh, oh boy. And then you hear the whistle come over the over the speaker, and you like it says stand by from words from the commanding officer, and you're like, oh boy, like this isn't good. And he pretty much just came on and like straight to the point. There was no sugarcoat in it, there was no beating around the bush. He just said, We've been redirected to go back over to Fifth Fleet. So that was that. He said, Button down, button down hatches, off we go, you know, and we got over there real quick. Like, yeah, nobody's been able to make it across that fast, and we made it pretty quickly. And I just said my thought is if we go over there, we're we're screwed. We're not gonna make it home before. Yeah, no chance. You know, like there's no way, no chance. Just time-wise, it's not gonna happen. No matter what you're doing, you don't have the time, right? So um we went over there, we had a port visit in Suda Bay, and we had to pick up some stuff, ammunitions, food, gave us the port visit. So we were off the ship for about five days. And then as soon as we pulled out, it was you know, into the Red Sea we went and game on.

Scott

I'll never forget waking up that that I think it was a Sunday morning maybe here and seeing the news. And I'm just like, oh, god dang it, dude.

Leading First Timers Through Stress

Scott

And getting a text from you, and I was just like, let's go, let's go, you know? Yeah.

Chris

Oh at that point, you're just sitting there, and so how do you, me, uh I'm a senior leader, you know, like I have sailors that this is their first deployment. You know, so how do you keep them motivated? You know, because in their eyes, they're like, I'm screwed. The Navy's screwing me, like this, I did not sign up for this, blah, blah, blah. And you know, you don't want to say the cliche of well, you kind of like, right? But that was our like, I think that was our second extension. So or third. No, that was our second. And at that point, like, how do you motivate, right? So um my go-to phrase was like, look, at the end of the day, uh, we cannot control where they put us, right? We can only control what we can control. I said, we're gonna take care of us, we're gonna look out for each other because we're a family. You gotta be, dude. You're out there. Yeah, you you have to be. You don't have a choice. You don't have a choice, right? So, and it was an open door policy. Like, I'd be like, if anybody wants to talk, I'll come on over, come back here, we'll sit, we'll talk, we'll go get coffee. Like, I don't, I don't care. Like, whatever we have to do to keep you motivated to get to the mission. 100%. That's what it comes down to. It's the mission is by far the the number one priority. And you know, I deal with F-18s, like I have 10 airplanes that I'm responsible for. And I said, we're gonna get these 10 airplanes ready to go. And for whatever they tell us that we need to.

Scott

One of the best stories that Chris ever told me of the job was getting these planes to go, and a pilot, I'll never forget you telling me this, and a pilot like spilt a bag of Skittles, and you had to you had to go and make sure you had all of them out of there. You had to like buy bags of Skittles to count and this and that.

Chris

And you had to count them. Yeah. That was I'll never forget that. That was like that was that was a couple years ago that that happened. Yeah. Uh, and that's true. Like, that's a real world thing. Like, you you gotta you gotta get them all.

Scott

One little skittle could cause a shit ton of issues.

Graham

Yeah. So how badly did you bust his ass?

Chris

It was a very one-way conversation.

Scott

He's like, guy, you're not marshmallows. Stop beating the skittles. Let's go.

Chris

Stop beating the Skittles. Like, this is not this is not where we're doing. You know, at the end of the day, this they stepped up and they killed it. And they I'll go to war with those guys any day of the week. Like I had I got the best crew. Um, they work hard, they party hard. Yeah, but they they worked their ass.

Scott

That happened, I don't know when, I think it was before that whole issue was I was shocked. Uh Sandy got to go meet you. And that's his wife. That was so that was pretty cool. That was like, holy shit. That was so sick to see her post that picture. I was like, hell yeah.

Chris

And she and you know, she wasn't even in a count. She wasn't. Like, she does not like to travel outside of the United States, you know, especially not with me with her, right? And I'm like, it's not really traveling outside of the United States, it's St. Thomas, like this is this is nothing. Um, but I'm glad like she was really happy she did because you know, it was what a week and a half later, I was back heading back the other way. Um, so

Family Strain And Boots In Saudi

Chris

I told her we have to take advantage of the opportunities that present themselves. You know, we're not gonna get this all the time, and we have just have to do it. And that's that's what it comes down to.

Scott

I mean, Kristen and I were talking and my dad Saturday night when we went out to dinner, you know, when you called and I was like, I'll call you back. I was like, Chris is finally home, and you know, Kristen was like, God, he left in June, he gets back in May. You know, he missed Allie's entire freshman year, you know, Christmas, all that stuff, holidays. And, you know, it's brutal, but it takes a strong family, especially a strong woman like your wife, who I know. She's obviously a strong person because she's also a fan of the Metropolitan. So uh you gotta be, you gotta be able to take those sucker punches.

Chris

But, you know, it's I I could not uh I cannot do what I do without no chance. Or, you know, you need that support, you know, 100%. Um you know, we just we just keep the the biggest thing is yeah, you gotta keep plugging away, but you have to communicate. A lot of people get in, you know, they get in jams, they get their families. Look, this was hard on everybody. It was hard on families, and there are there are sales that came home that their marriages are breaking up. And yeah, and I get it, you know, not everybody can do this stuff. And you know, we've we've been at it for 20 years, you know, 20 years we've been married, 20 years I've been in the Navy. So she's been through every step of it, and she's been through it all. But this one was tough. A lot of shit going on. This one, uh a lot of shit going on, you know. Uh, and Allie's 15 now, so being home with her and being able to spend time with them is now my priority.

Scott

Stud softball player, you know, missing, missing.

Chris

Yeah, killing it, you know. Yeah, just missing, missing everything. And, you know, I could deal with how it's this is gonna sound really bad, but like I could deal with missing Christmas. I can I can't deal with missing Thanksgiving. This is my favorite holiday.

Scott

Dude. You know my gripe on Turkey, bro.

Graham

God. Thank you, Chris. Thank you. Thank you.

Chris

If it was so good, they would serve it every day. Yeah, newsflash. They served it every Thursday on my ship. Okay, it was Thanksgiving Thursday. Okay, so there you go. All right, with all the trimmings and all the things, okay.

Scott

I would have been I would have been ordering some something else. Can I get some Doordash over here on this boat, please?

Chris

I like the Thanksgiving because it's a guaranteed four days off. Yeah. For me, it was always, you know, since I've been doing this Navy gig, you know, it's four days off. And I don't know. So I could deal with that. I could deal with all that, right? I just can't deal with missing the the family stuff other than the holidays.

Scott

Well, I'm I'm pumped you came on. I appreciate you coming on. I appreciate everything you do for me, for Graham, for the world. I appreciate that. I can't wait to see you tomorrow. Because you're coming down to the club.

Chris

Oh, yeah, it's gonna be great. I'm coming down to Duckwoods, baby. Listen. Have some lunch. I got one more thing for you though, real quick. So when we went back into the Red to the Red Sea, they ended up, I had to go to Saudi Arabia. So I was boots on the ground in Saudi Arabia for it was supposed to be seven days. It was three weeks.

Scott

I never knew this part. And yeah.

Chris

Well, I'll show you some pictures tomorrow when I see you. But it was look, a lot of people, you know, they read, they look, they they watch the news, right? I will tell you this this is firsthand experience. It is the worst experience of your life. And I'll never do it again. But was I glad I did it and was I proud that I did it? 100%. 100%. Yeah, like without a doubt. It was hard, it was taxing. Um, but you know, here we are. Yeah, you know, I'm back. This will probably be my last, you know, truth in reporting. I I think we're ready for the next chapter, you know, and whatever that chapter is gonna be.

Scott

Come down to Duckwood,

First Golf Round After Deployment

Scott

dude. You can be a starter. Let's go.

Chris

We're gonna come down tomorrow and we'll have some lunch and uh dude, dude.

Scott

Do me a favor, bring a seven iron because I found something. I found something yesterday, and I tried it yesterday, did it again today, and I was just like, okay. From a podcast, well, you're my podcast. Claude Harmon, uh, Butch Harman Son's podcast is called Son of a Butch. He was talking about a couple things and it clicked. And I was like, tried it yesterday myself, tried it on a student this morning, actually put some effort, actually hit balls today for an hour because I'm going on a little golf trip on Thursday, and I was like, Yeah, oh baby, let's go. But you got home Saturday, you played golf on Sunday, first time playing golf in 11 months. How did that go? Yep. Some good, some notes. Duh. Right. I mean, yeah. Did you shock yourself with any shots? Love it. Oh, yeah. That's all that mattered.

Chris

Yeah. Yeah. We started on the back at the fun center. The three wood is flying. I actually hit it OB. I went straight ahead. Hit it OB. Oh man. I hammered it. Uh the driver was working very well. Very well. Uh short game. Short game's a struggle right now. Do it. Of course. To be expected. I I'm not worried about that. Yeah, absolutely to be expected. The putter had a little trouble distancing. Uh read, not reads, more uh speed, pace. Uh, but that'll cost. That's fair. You know, I'm not worried about that. I hit some good shots. I hit I got some unlucky shots. Like I'm on 15. I'm kind of in the tree line. I gotta, I'm like, oh man, this is easy. Punch it right through. Nope. Hit the tree trunk, goes out of bounds.

Scott

Hey, but you gotta look up and you gotta go, you know, it is what it is. I'm not in Saudi Arabia.

Chris

I did find, yeah, you know, uh, I got a hundred-yard wedge shot into the green. I proceeded to hit it to 150 yards because you hit it a little thin, you know, little things like that.

Scott

Like the old meme, it says, I don't always hit my sandwich 100 yards unless I'm 100 or 150 yards unless I'm in a green side bunker.

Chris

100%. But you know, I I had fun.

Scott

It's all that matters. Who'd you play with?

Chris

Sawyer? Sawyer and Cam. Okay. Yeah. And uh and Cam's son.

Scott

He's been playing some G lately. Yeah. Little River. Oh, yeah.

Chris

Yeah. He's, you know, I haven't seen that kid in 11 months, right? Call it a year. And he goes, Do you remember? This is the first thing he says to me. He goes, Welcome back. He goes, Do you remember the last time we played? I said, Yeah, I remember. He goes, Do you remember hitting the water on six the last time we played? I'm like, Yeah, I remember that. How do you remember that? Wow. And I looked and I turned to Cam. I said, I said, he's like Rain Man. He doesn't forget anything. He's like, I know, like, he's got a great memory.

Scott

He's a good kid. Graham, the guy we're talking about, Cam, he's the Southern Auto guy, right? Okay. This is the best part about it. Cam always walks in the golf shop, takes a six pack of beer. Now his son walks in the golf shop and takes a six pack of Gatorade. It's like it's hilarious. It's so funny. It's hilarious. But anyhow, Chris, thank you so much for coming on, dude. Thank you so much to you. Thanks for having me.

Graham

Before you go, I got I got you know, you guys have been chatting a lot. I got three quick ones I gotta ask you. Let's go. First one have you taken Scott's money on the golf course yet? How often have you taken it in the past? Uh never taken it.

Chris

Came close at Baville. No, not Baville.

Scott

What was that place on the that would play it off the store there? Audrey Audrey's track.

Chris

Yeah.

Scott

You know a funny story with Chris Graham. To Tampa together. Me, Chris, Johnny, and Billy. Okay. And a story I've never talked about. The 17th hole at this track at Tampa Palms. It was like this, it was this par three. Was it an island green? It was kind of an island green.

Chris

Kind of an island green, yeah. Not a true island green, just close to one.

Scott

In three rounds of golf, never walked across the bridge.

Chris

Didn't make it across. Never walked across.

Scott

Speaking of, dude, I just got a call from him earlier. He's moving to Ohio in July. He's out. Yeah. Going back to the family. But I get it.

Chris

No, I I have not uh taken Scott's money yet, but it it will come. It will. Very soon. It will happen.

Scott

And I can't wait till I can't wait till it happens.

Graham

Second question. Since uh you brought up the whole Thanksgiving thing in the turkey, it just made me think of it. So Scott and I have this, you know, going back and forth. St. Paddy's Day or Cinco de Mayo? Oh St. Paddy's Mayo. He is Irish. Show him your tax.

Scott

Show him your I mean. All right, fair enough. It's on his leg. It's on his leg. I didn't know. Yeah. Fair question.

Chris

No, I appreciate you guys uh having me on. And uh I'd love to come back on and we'll talk some sports and you know during football season when my jets go to San Diego and care of business.

Scott

Well, yeah, I wish I wish your jets were going to San Diego instead they're going to LA. But hey, speaking of, dude, you want to hear something crazy? I was gonna talk about this in the golf. But Aaron Rye, okay, obviously won the PGA.

Chris

Yeah, two gloves.

Scott

Dude, two gloves. He was 200 to 1 to win. That's the same odds as the White Sox winning the World Series and the Jets win in the Super Bowl. The end. Yes. He got way too much time on. I knew you were gonna talk about the Jets beating the Chargers. I mean, come on now. I mean, you know, you know, you were on a boat for 11 months and you had the same amount of interceptions as the Jets defenders.

Chris

Oh my god, it's so bad. Just throwing us out there. That's so bad. You know, on paper they're good. You know, they got talent, but you know, we'll see what happens this year, man. I don't know. Okay. Yes. Mets, Jets, Nick, they're playing tonight.

Scott

Hey, and I remember the day we hired Watson Nuts for the nights. You texted me, you were the first person, and we're like, hey, I love it. I hated it. And yeah, torts is my guy, dude. I love him. Working out. Yeah, I love him. Dude, Knicks are down 13 right now.

Chris

Don't say that. I didn't even know. The Knicks, this is this is not gonna be a walk in the park for them. It is not gonna be a walk in the park. This is gonna be a battle. I say, I think it's gonna go Knicks and six. Nick's and six. I'd I'd I'd put the I'd like to.

Scott

Your boy over here, the other guy, he's really stressing Knicks for other reasons. Yeah. But Chris, appreciate you coming on. Can't wait to see you tomorrow. Can't wait to hug you. Can't wait to see you, dude. Yeah, buddy. I mean, bring your seven iron because I got a little magic right now. I will. All right, dude. I'm down.

Chris

Don't forget those buttons.

Scott

I will, I will tell you, you're not getting the 48. You're getting the 52 and the 52. I mean, those are yours. You're going home with them tomorrow.

Chris

All good.

Scott

But anyhow, love you, dude. Thanks for coming on.

Chris

I appreciate you guys. Love you guys. Thanks for having me on.

Scott

We'll do it again. Let's go. So, Graham, how fun was that having Chris on, dude? I know. I mean, we are a sports podcast, but having someone like that on the show was pretty amazing. Because our friendship bonded because of sports.

Graham

Love it.

Scott

You know, it was a lot of fun, a lot of questions that I didn't know the answer to. I'm pretty sure you didn't know the answer to.

Graham

No.

Scott

You know, uh, I didn't even know he was, you know, in Saudi Arabia on the ground. Right. But hey, Chris, Sandy, Allie, love you all. Appreciate what you do for our country and you know, allowing Graham and I to be sports nerds and do a podcast.

Sports Quizzes That Melt Your Brain

Scott

So, anyhow, as we flip the switch here and start talking about some sports, you know, last couple weeks we've been doing some quizzes. Oh, and I've got two. And the first one, there's no chance he's gonna get it. And there's I didn't get it. Nobody I know will get this. If Graham gets it, uh, I'm not even gonna say anything because there's no chance he gets it.

Graham

No more quizzes.

Scott

Oh no, this is a new segment of the show. You know, TP said it yesterday. Can Graham get it? And I was like, no, dude. The new did Kristen answer it faster than Graham.

Graham

Shut the front door.

Scott

All right, you ready for this one? This will blow your mind. Okay. This will blow your mind. Okay. What is the only franchise to draft two Hall of Fame quarterbacks in the same draft? My when I saw this, my original answer was the Chargers, because we drafted Eli and then Phillip. But neither one of them have been put in the Hall of Fame yet. So that was instantly not correct. Dude, you'll never get it. I mean, my dad was just my my dad was just mind blown. I've asked numerous people, it's insane, dude.

Graham

I'm so pissed because I've actually heard this question before. I just forgot the answer. Yeah, I've heard this question.

Scott

So instead of instead of taking forever, it's not even a football franchise.

Graham

It's not a football franchise? Oh, so it'd have to be a baseball.

Scott

It's the Kansas City Royals. In 1979, they drafted Merino in LA.

Graham

Wow. Wow. Yeah, I mean, I would have definitely not got there anytime soon, but I have heard the question. I've heard of it. It's been a while.

Scott

So I'm sure you've heard this one too. But just to put you on the spot, we're gonna do it. Okay. There are four teams. Sorry, there are six teams in the big four of sports. So hockey, baseball, NBA, and the NFL. Okay? That share the same nickname. I'll give you the first one. The Kings. LA Kings, Sacramento Kings. So you got so you got five to answer out of the six.

Graham

This is are they current names?

Scott

Yep.

Graham

How good is this, dude? The Giants?

Scott

There's one.

Graham

Oh man. Um Cardinals.

Scott

There's two.

Graham

Yeah, yeah.

Scott

That was my that was the last one. That was my last one. Um stop looking at your phone, dickhead. I'm not looking at the phone. My phone's right here.

Graham

I'm not looking at anything. Show me your hands. I'm not looking at my phone.

Scott

Hands up. Hands up, baby.

Graham

My phone's across the way. Um football, baseball, basketball.

Scott

Hockey, basketball. Um, who do you have? I gave you the Kings. Did the Giants and the Cardinals? Okay. Um stop looking down.

Graham

I'm not that's just show me your hands. I'm not looking at it. Put your phone down. Show me your hands. My phone is over here. All right. Do you see it? Show your over here.

Chris

Show me your hands.

Graham

My phone is over here. I'm just looking. Um fuck. Jesus. Um how quickly how quickly did Kristen come up with these?

Scott

Well, her and my dad did it together, and I'm just gonna go out and throw T-Bone under the bus.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

Kristen dominated him.

Graham

Wow. Um Yeah. Uh Jesus.

Scott

Alright, I'll give you a little hint.

Graham

Oh, the Hawks?

Scott

Who did you get? No. You said I gave you the Kings.

Graham

I did the Cardinals and the Giants.

Scott

And the Giants. Okay. So you have let's see. Wow.

Graham

I'm just trying to think between the other sports.

Scott

One of one of the remaining is a hockey team and baseball team. Another one is an NFL team and hockey team.

unknown

NFL team.

Scott

And the last one is a hockey team and NFL team.

Graham

The Panthers.

Scott

Bingo. Good work.

Graham

And then you say, wait, so hockey and basketball?

Scott

No, no, no, no. I said hockey and baseball.

Chris

And then the last one is NFL and hockey.

Scott

This is that's the last one is the hardest one.

Graham

The last one's the hardest one? NFL and the one.

Scott

Stop looking down.

Graham

Stop looking down.

Scott

You son of a bitch.

Graham

Hi NFL and hockey.

Scott

Uh you almost said it. I could feel it. You were getting ready to say it.

Graham

With the Chargers? No, no, the bowl. No. I was gonna say the Chargers are the Ram, but there's no Rams. Because that's football and no. Cindy football and hockey.

Scott

And hockey and baseball. Hockey and baseball. Um not the uh all right, just for time's sake. Two of the teams left are Chris's favorite teams in the sport. That he just said a couple of times.

Graham

Oh, because the Winnipeg Jets. Oh, okay.

Scott

There you go.

Graham

Alright, the Jets.

Scott

That's the hardest one.

Graham

Yeah, yeah, because Winnipeg, yeah, right.

Scott

Yeah.

Graham

Um I wouldn't have got that.

Scott

No.

Graham

And his other team was the Mets, he said.

Scott

His hockey team.

Graham

Oh, the was it the the Oh, the Rangers. There you go. Okay. Yeah, the Rangers. I'm like, I'm sorry. I'm like, there's no Islanders. I'm like, oh yeah, the Rangers. Okay. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Alright.

Scott

Yeah. Yeah. Fun ones.

Graham

Yeah, those are good.

Scott

Uh TP tried to hit me with that last night, and I was like, I've already heard this. I know what it is. Ah. Those are tough. I'd heard it before, right? It's just it's fun though.

Graham

It's tough because like there's already so many enough, so many teams in each sport. And then just for you to cross-reference between the different teams, you're just like, hold on, give my brain a second to figure out who's who. Like, shit.

Scott

Dude, the funny thing is, my the last one I got was the Cardinals.

unknown

Yeah.

Scott

And that was like your first one. But anyhow, one quiz night.

Graham

You got the Jets right away?

Scott

Yes, because I remember the first time I heard the question. Okay. That was the last one I got. That's why I knew it right off the bat. So uh here we are, dude.

PGA Championship Weather And Winner

Scott

It's uh Monday the 19th. Or Tuesday the 19th, sorry. Smack myself. PGA championship finished a couple days ago. Uh Aaron Wright gets the dub. You know? Good for him. Uh good for him.

Graham

He didn't even qualify for the truest the week before. He played in Myrtle Beach in the backup event.

Scott

Which just goes to show why there's a change happening next year. But everything leading up to the event was what? Oh, these guys are gonna light it up. I mean, the last time the BMW was there, I think Keegan won in a playoff at 20 under.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

Everybody was hyping the place up. It's gonna go, they're gonna go deep, they're gonna go deep. Well, they could have, but you know, it's where? It's the northeast in early spring. And what happened? It was cold as shit. It was windy as shit. Yeah. I mean, did you see the guys on Thursday and Friday? They were in hoodies, they were in beanies, and then it was hot as piss on Saturday and Sunday. And the greens, dude. I liked seeing it. You know, I like seeing people complain because that means it's fun. And just throwing this out there, you know, Rory played terrible on Thursday. What do you shoot? 74, maybe whatever.

Graham

Yeah, something like that.

Scott

And he complained about the setup, and then all of a sudden Friday he goes deep, and now it's the greatest setup ever. Like, dude, which one is it, bro? Uh which one is it? And let's don't forget. Uh what happened Thursday, dude, with that guy showing up late for his tea time?

Graham

I the fact that that's not the first time that's happened is just beyond me. I I mean, how do you cut it that close, especially for a major? Like, is that one extra swing at the range gonna make or break you?

Scott

Dude, he said his caddy was on the T, okay, and he said he stopped at the putting green to hit one more putt. Literally shows up to the T 30 seconds after his tea time, two stroke penalty. And then what happens? Goes out and shoots three under. Well, sorry. Now it's one under. And then what happens? Misses a cut by one.

Graham

I I just if you're the caddy there, what do you say to him?

Scott

Thanks for costing me some money, dickhead.

Graham

Like, uh, how do you I mean that conversation uh after it's over and they're leaving, I could only imagine. I mean, look, I know the caddy player relationship is, you know, there's a bond there, there's this and that, there's give and take, you know, you can say things, you cannot say things, but like there comes a point where it's just like, hey man, be a professional, do what you need to do, be on time. Like, that's just unbelievable. I I mean and the worst part is is his press conference was like all over the place about it.

Scott

He was he was trying to blame other things. Okay, and like I told you the other night when I said I texted TP that he missed a cut by one, and T P sent me a response, and he was like, dude, like his press conference yesterday, it's not his fault, dude. As he was putting, they moved the whole locations, you know. And when we were talking about this, TP and I on Thursday, TP goes, you know, he played in a lot of state opens and you know, section events like I did when we had caddies. He goes, like I said, I gave my caddy one job pre-round. Get me through the tea on time. Dude, and then dude fires his caddy on Monday.

Graham

What so okay, that did happen. I heard that. I just wasn't 100% on that.

Scott

Fired his caddy, fired his caddy yesterday. I mean that's ticky tack, bro. Ticky tack.

Graham

I mean, at that point, do you think I mean whoever is looking for a caddy would just be like, yo, let me do him a solid? Or I I mean, like, I that's just dude.

Scott

It's bad.

Graham

I don't like it. It's like have you not heard of karma before? Like, I agree. How's the rest of your season gonna be? How's the rest of your career gonna be pulling that type of shit? That is unbelievable. I I don't know.

Scott

And like, you know, he had to blame something. Whatever, dude. You're the player, it's your ultimate thing. You gotta be on time. Yeah. He said, Well, I don't like showing up to the first T 10 minutes before. Don't show five minutes. It ain't that hard, dude. It ain't hard. You got one job. You got one job. Yeah, clock in on time.

Chris

Because that's ultimately what it is. You're clocking in. Dude, clock in on time. Anyhow.

Scott

Uh dude, it was a fun event. Aaron Rye, dude, I mean, goodness gracious, he played his last 10 holes, what, six under Eagles nine goes nuts. A lot of people going into Sunday had a shot. What'd they say? 22 players within four shots?

Graham

That's unreal. I mean, yeah, that's a good thing in most cases.

Scott

I mean, it's nice Rory bitched about it about that, saying nobody pulled away. Okay. And I'm just gonna say this as much as CBS got ripped for the masters coverage, okay, I thought they uh kicked ass and took names this past Sunday because you got that many people that are that close to the lead, yeah, and they're just like, how hard of a job was that for the producer of CBS?

Graham

Oh, I'm sure.

Scott

Oh, this guy's there, this guy's there, this guy's there, this guy's there. Rom goes out, birdie's the first two holes, then shits the bed, Rory's out there bitching at fans, you know. But when it all came down to it, dude, Aaron Wright sacked up.

Graham

Yeah, he, you know, it it's it's a funny concept. Players of all skill level, one of the things that we like to say, and by we I mean, you know, as a former caddy myself, just talking with, you know, members and guests and stuff, it's just like, hey, keep it in the fairway, gives you a better chance to hit the green, gives you a better chance to make a putt, and there you go. You don't need to bomb it, you don't need to be all special out here, just hit the fairway, hit the green to make putts, and that's what Aaron Ride did over the weekend. I mean, there was nothing sexy about his game, but how many fairways and regulations did he have? How many greens and regulations? Like he gave himself opportunities to make putts, and at that course, with where their pin positions were, because that was a pretty big topic for most of the week, but with how slick those greens were and how the undulation and just where they're placing the pins, it's like it was tough making putts. I mean, it got easier on the weekend just because of you know, and especially with the wind, you know, there was times where it was up to 20 miles an hour, 25, I've even heard. It's just like when you have conditions like that, and then on top of pin placements, positioning is everything. You know, the broadcast, you know, the golf channel afterwards, every they kept talking about angles, angles, angles. And it's just like when you can bomb it, you're not worried about angles because you're so close to the green, you gotta, you know, you have a a shorter club that's more alofted, that gives you a better chance at the at the hole, right? Well, now, I mean, with that weather, you were penalized if you weren't keeping it in the fairway. And the truest form of golf is making it an even playing field so everyone has the same chances, you know, to score this to score, basically. And this week, or should I say this past week, kind of showed that. I mean, with how the weather was and where the pin placements were located, no one really had an advantage. And it's not like Aaron Rye is a long player, he's not.

Scott

Dude, let me talk about this real quick, okay? My guy, my guy that just won the PGA championship, Aaron Rye. Yeah, okay, is playing a driver that came out in 2019, the Taylor-made M6. Wow. 2019. I still lived in California when that driver came out. Okay. And then my guy standing on the 17th T, the par three, okay, hits it where he's supposed to hit it, far right side of the green. He's got a massive putt. I'm sitting here looking at it, going, oh my god, if he hits this a little hard, he could putt this in the water.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

Two shot lead. And what's he do? Just goes straight Kansas. Hoops it. Dude.

Graham

Scott

Like I mean, deep dish pizza. It was like Jay, like spawn last year at Oakmont.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

And then 18th hole, three shot lead. Thanks for playing. Dude, I mean, just say in your just say it out loud. A driver that came out in 2019.

Graham

Hey, what what have I always said on the podcast and and even in conversation? All anyone needs is four consecutive rounds. You play the four best rounds of your life. It don't matter at what time you play those four best rounds of your life. Just do it at the most proper time. And that's what he did. He did it at a major in Philly, at Ironimic for the PJ Championship and said, Hey, this is my four best rounds. And he gave it his all. So I mean and the, you know, you brought it up to me after the fact, you know, on Sunday when it was over, because I was telling you, you know, I didn't get a chance to watch most of it. I mean, I watched a lot of highlights, but you basically said you're like Ram. When I asked you, I was like, So how how was it? How was it watching the golf? And you're like, honestly, it wasn't that eventful.

Scott

It it was until Rye was just like, hold my beer.

Graham

Yeah. Well, it's like make a birdie, make a bogey. Make a birdie, make a bogey. It's just like, yeah, there it's like people had chances, but they just they couldn't capitalize.

Scott

I mean, did you see how many putts inside 10 feet Scotty missed?

Graham

Wow.

Scott

And I'm not even saying 10 feet, I'm just saying I'm just giving him the benefit of the doubt here. Dude. Yeah. He had a chance. It was a it was a tournament, dude. It was fun. But the thing I care the most about, our boy, Rick, going into the final round, he was at one under, right? Wasn't he five back? I think one under, five back. Let's go, right? Hey, just saw he was seven back last week, shot sixty, whatever. We lost by two. Uh didn't have a good final round. But the good news is, like we talked about last week, he had to be in the top 60 after the uh PGA to qualify for the U.S. Open automatically after the event, finished. I don't know what he finished, whatever, 130 grand. He dropped two spots in the world ranking, I think from whatever to 39, is that what I said? And then so I don't know, no, something like that. Uh 38th in the US Open at Shannick. Okay. And then at the end of this coming week, which is a CJ Cup, if he's in the top 50, which he will be, automatic into the open. Nice. So let's go. He's in. So pumped for that, you know, bummed about, you know, his Sunday round, but you know, is what it is. Let's go. Uh, like I you and I were talking, he played like five events in a row. He didn't play in the Masters, played at Hilton Head, great event, played in the Cadillac signature event, played in the truest, and then this. Notice what did a lot of guys do? Take a week off. Rory hadn't played since Augusta.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

Scotty took Scotty took the truest off. You know, dudes were arrested. He played, you know, good for him. He knew what he had to do, get in the U.S. Open. Now he doesn't have to do the longest day in golf and lose in an eight-man playoff like he did last year. So, you know, good for Rick. I'm throwing it out there right now. You know, I like to throw you know darts at a board blindfolded. Uh I'm just throwing it out there right now. Okay. I gotta look at the schedule real quick because we got the CJ Cup, CJ Cup this week. That's not a lot of people are playing in it. Uh, come on, where we got upcoming tournaments. We got Colonial the week after in Dallas. Uh this Charles Schwab Cup. Why is it? I don't want to be there. God dang it. Show me the upcoming tournaments. I don't want May. Alright, whatever.

Graham

What? What? No, I'm just because I haven't given the patented watts yet, so I threw it in there. Oh. Just for you, Andy.

Scott

I'm just gonna say, whatever.

Chris

The memorial, Jack's place in Ohio. Rick's getting a dub. Oh. Somewhere he's played well.

Graham

Yeah, I like it.

Scott

A lot of times. Home of the greatest Tiger Woods fist pump ever back in the day in the final round with Rick and Tiger playing in the final group. Tiger chips in on that hole. And if you go back and watch the highlights, when Tiger does the uppercut fist pump, it literally looks like he just uppercut Scoburn right in the jaw. It's so awesome and so good. But uh anyhow, it was a fun event. Was it a household name? No. The cool thing about it was all the players came out and said how happy they were for Rai getting the dub. Yeah. And how hard he works, how hard he works. Dude, your Knicks are making a comeback.

Graham

Please, sweet baby Jesus.

NHL Conference Finals And Hot Takes

Scott

Only down eight, 344 left. Um, so moving on, real quick, Stanley Club, conference finals, matchups are set. We got to watch a game seven last night. Sabres and the Canadians. Well, some of us did. You were at some John Wick thing.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

Uh went to overtime. Sabres once again battle back after being down two, goes to game seven. Sabres only won one game seven in their current history. That was a tough matchup, dude. Canadians battled. You know, I don't even know what to say. It was fun.

Graham

It was you know, what one thing that I took from it, because I did catch overtime in a little bit at the end of the third period was one of the announcers was saying, good shot, bad shot, all shots on net are a good shot. And you know, the way that play developed, I mean, it it was I wouldn't special, right? No, there was nothing about it. It's just like, yeah, you know, the guy took the shot, the goaltender was kind of blocked by one of the players in front of him, so he didn't see it, and the guy put it right under his arm. I I mean, it was just it was one of the things where it's just like, look, you're in Buffalo, you know, I grew up not too far from there. I got a close friend who's a diehard Buffalo fan. And, you know, I just felt terrible for him. And it's just, it's one of those things where it's just like in life, why do some stereotypes, or not stereotypes, but like, why are there just what why do certain towns just have that negative stigma to them where it's just like bad things happen? I mean, Buffalo, Music City Miracle, Norwood, wide, wide right, like just so many things where it's just like you know, the fans are so passionate, dude. The Staples have been irrelevant for what, 15, 16, I mean, a long time. And look, you know, they're young, they'll be good for the future, but for them to be play as well as they have, and just you know, the crowd there. I mean, look, when they went down 0-2 in the first period, I was like, Yeah, this is not good. But then to come, you know, but then once I checked the score after I got out of what I was doing, and I was just like, okay, tied it up, and then they took it to overtime. I mean, from the time that I saw, I watched basically like six minutes left in the third period and then all of overtime 95% of all that time, the Sabres were in control.

Scott

Dude, and here's here's the crazy thing, okay. I sent it to you Sunday night. The total for game seven, total goals was over five and a half. You did, and it was plus money, and I'm going, I'm sorry, what? Uh game five and game six, there were five total goals scored in the first period in each one of those games. And not only that, but that was game five and game six. Game two, three, and four, I had a shit ton of goals too. Uh, what was the final score last night? Three to two. Three to three to two.

Graham

How do they know?

Scott

Dude. Like, uh, uh and there's two goals scored in the first period.

Graham

Yeah, you're like, winner, this is Lacks City.

Scott

Nope. I mean, Navarro, who was on our hockey podcast before the playoffs, was like, uh, going over six and a half. Alternate spread it to six and a half. TP was like, no, I don't like any part of it. Don't bet anything with the total. But, you know, anyhow, Canadians advanced to take on the canes. I said it going into game seven, I'm gonna back it up. I said the winner of game seven last night is gonna beat the canes. And there is such a thing as too much time off.

Chris

True.

Scott

We saw that last night with the Thunder, right?

Graham

Yeah. I I mean that was a hell of a game.

Scott

It was. It was, but I'm just saying, hockey, you haven't been in a game situation in how long?

Graham

Yeah, no, it makes sense. You gotta, hey, you gotta be loose, you gotta be ready, you gotta. I mean, taking that much time off, it's it's gonna be tough.

Scott

So I'm not, it's gonna be tough. Both series, I think, are gonna be good. If you put a gun to my head and said who's gonna win the series, I'm gonna go with the Canes. But I really like the Canadians.

Chris

Okay. I do. I like Suzuki.

Scott

I like Carrier. And I'm gonna go out and and blast one of my favorite all-time players that we talked about on the Stanley Cup preview podcast, Tuck, for Buffalo. Yeah. The dude we traded, the dude we traded one of them to get Iichel. Stud all season, stud in the first round. He had the same amount of points in that series as you and I. That ain't good.

Graham

You can't win when you don't score a point. I mean, like, you know, with with any sport, your best players have to produce if you want to win.

Scott

It has to happen. It has to happen. So let's move on. Western Conference Finals. My boys took care of the ducks in six. I'm just gonna go out there and say, hey. The pressure's not on us, the pressure's on Colorado. But, like I've always said, I like the way we match up. Four-point game, Graham's hype hyper.

Graham

Let's go!

Scott

McCarr injury is huge in this series. And, you know, Hannifin defended Nathan McKinnon. He dominated him in in the Olympics. And in all the other games this season. It's gonna be fun. Who knows? I think we have the better goalie. I've said it for a while. You have? Uh I don't know, dude. I don't know what to expect. Uh, all I know is the vote came out today. It's hilarious. The Knights are the number one hated team in hockey. Why? I love it. I love it. Why jealousy much?

Graham

Well, I mean, you just started eight years ago. You've been to the playoffs every year except one, you won the championship. I mean, I I get it. Or the Stanley Cup, I'm sorry.

Scott

I mean, whatever. Don't really care if you hate me or you don't. Don't care.

Chris

Facts.

Scott

I mean, Marner being a stud, I mean, how good has he been? Toronto fans are all like, oh, he can't do it. He can't, he can't score in big games. Oh, yeah? How'd he work out?

Graham

So is so it's this you so what, six games or seven games for the Knights?

Scott

Oh I hope it goes seven.

Graham

You want to stress all seven games?

Scott

Absolutely. I told the boys last night, oh, three-point game.

Graham

Let's go!

Scott

I told the boys last night in overtime for the Sabres and Canadians. I'm like, I am so glad this is not one of our teams in this situation right now.

Graham

Oh, right?

Scott

Oh, dude. I mean, hey, as a Knights fan, the worst night of my life as a Knights fan was the no major against San Jose when Cody Eakin got called for the major that wasn't a major. That changed the world. It changed the rule forever. But whatever. Uh, you know, I'm also a homer. I'm also someone that didn't think we were gonna make the playoffs when we fired Cassidy.

Graham

Yeah.

Scott

And first person to admit it, oh, watch this tie game.

Chris

Oh, oh, win in tie game.

Graham

Oh my lord. Unbelievable. Let's go next. Dude, they were down so much. Yeah, they were down 22 at one point.

Scott

Yeah. But, you know, as we switch, flip. Oh, the best thing about the night's Colorado series for me, 8 o'clock start Eastern time. Let's go. No more 10 o'clock PM times.

NBA Drama Plus NFL Schedule Rage

Scott

But uh, you know, as we flip the switch, NBA playoffs, you know, we're obviously watching this, 17 seconds left. It's tied 101-101. Uh who knows what's gonna happen in this. This is gonna be a good series. And the other series, the other series, dude, Spurs OKC, once again, what did we just say? OKC's had how much time off and lost game one in overtime. But you know, I I don't know. It's gonna be a good series. Graham is stressing the Knicks majorly, and he's also halfway rooting for the Avalanche and not.

Graham

It's it's a double-edged sword either way. I need the like I win a little bit if the Avalanche lose. I win a decent amount if the Avalanche win, but I need the Knicks to win the East for that to happen. So I need one with the other, or it's just like a win-win is Avalanche lose, a win-win. Win is avalanche win, but the Knicks win. Uh, I hate my life lose is the Knicks lose and the Avalanche win. So as long as that doesn't happen, we are gravy.

Scott

So anyhow, uh it's been a fun show. Uh we got Stanley Cup conference finals getting ready to kick off tomorrow. My boys start off tomorrow night in Colorado. And, you know, NBA conference finals are kicking off. Graham. I mean, it's been a fun show. Uh I loved having Chris on. Can't wait to see him tomorrow. He's actually coming down, like he said, to the club for lunch. Nice. But uh, yeah, dude. Uh let's go, dude. I mean, oh, real quick, Steelers news. Uh, that old dude signed.

Graham

Yeah, yes, he did on Monday. Let's go! Dude, you know who was uh fired up? I saw some uh interviews after practice today. Michael Pittman's loving life right now. He's like, dude, Aaron is slinging it out there. I know it's OTAs, it means absolutely nothing. I'm just saying the fact that Aaron's there now, it's May. He's getting used to the offense again. He's getting back with Mike McCarthy. Dude, there's buzz in the air. I I don't know how to feel about it. Look, they keep saying McCarthy's had a top five offense wherever he's been. Where what has Pittsburgh not have in the last 10 plus years? Yeah. A top 10 offense. So look, if we can stay healthy, if we can get the offense going, we got a chance. And that's all you can ask for is a chance.

Scott

It's all healthy. So it's all health.

Chris

On a side note, you know who hasn't been at Chargers first two weeks? Uh Herbert.

Scott

Herbert. First time ever he's not showed up.

Graham

Well, yeah, he's got this girl around his finger keeping him busy. Yeah, hell yeah.

Scott

He's over, he's over doing his thing. I mean, I ain't mad at it. Whatever, do your thing. Uh I will go out real quick and say this. We talked about it the other night, dude, as we get out of here. NFL schedule committee. You guys just need to go hang out with some absolute morons that have no brains. Uh, anything you can do to screw my bolts. Uh the Chargers and the Eagles are a lead leaguing duo of facing teams coming off a bye-week with four each. And three of those four teams, well, one of them's Kansas City, are playoff teams. Kansas City, the Texans, the fucking Patriots, and the Rams. Yeah, well. Not only that, hold on, not only that, but we face the Ravens coming off a mini-by, a Thursday night game, and the Bills coming off a mini-by. And like I told you the other night, when they came out and they said the what do they say, net rest, whatever it is. Hold on. It's the least amount of rest days in a schedule since 2013. Dude, I mean, come on. Come on.

Graham

They hate the chargers. What do you want me to say?

Scott

Yeah. Uh whatever. Uh I I don't even know what to say about it. It is what it is. Don't care. Anyone complaining about your schedule, get fucked. And speaking of Rasheed Rice, oh, have fun in jail for 30 days. Don't drop the soap, my brother. Uh let's see how the NFL covers that shit up. I mean, for a dude that was suspended for six games last year, what's gonna happen now?

unknown

Who knows?

Scott

Jail a piss test as your probation's ending. Straight to jail today. Mmm.

Graham

What had happened was.

Scott

Yeah, dude. Whatever. Uh, it is what it is. Um, Graham, love it. Fun show, fun times, had Chris on. Uh talked a little sports, talked a little golf. Uh get us out of here, my guy.

200 Episodes And Final Goodbyes

Graham

Scott, it's been an absolute pleasure. Congratulations to us for 200 episodes.

unknown

Wow.

Graham

I still can't believe it. I'm in shock and awe. I couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else. Love you to death, brother. And hey, as the best homie always says, boo bye.

Chris

Good night, friends. 200 episodes. Wow. Who would ever thought? Oh, I know. My girl Ballionas.

Scott

She probably was like, oh, duh. And hey, Rasheed Rice, don't drop that soap in jail. Whoa. Don't drop that soap in jail.

Graham

Whoa. Bubba
