Scotty Waa. Oh my god, what a weekend. World Cup, the open. We even had Major League Baseball, the All-Star game this past week. What a week. How you doing, brother? I'm doing great, but I am a little bummed.

Oh? Golf major season is behind us until April. But on that note, your boy did get some good news today. Uh, what has two thumbs and won the Masters Lottery? This guy. So, with that being said, let's grab one and crack one. Let's go. Couldn't believe it. Got the email. I'm like, this is fake. Nope, it ain't. Let's go. Kristen finally gets to walk the hollow grounds of Augusta National. Who? I mean, the golf pros wife. I mean, couldn't believe it. My dad's fired up. Let's go. But anyhow, like you said, what a weekend. Opens in the past. We got a crazy win. Some crazy shit going down in the open championship. You know, but before we even get into it, World Cup is over. God, how long has that shit been going on? I mean, 39 days or something. 37, I think they said. Crazy. Crazy. Other than that, I mean, before we even get going, how was your weekend? We got a fun show planned. We got a little guest coming on. Okay. In a little while. Aiden Rigney, old car kid from Greenbrier, where I was a head pro. And he's now a camera guy working in professional sports. He's got some fun stories for us, hopefully a little later. But back to your weekend, what'd you do? I know you worked a lot, but yeah.

Working, slinging those drinks, watching, you know, a little bit of the soccer while it was going on. And dude, now that the World Cup, I mean, the World Cup's every four years. So I mean we we we're taking it for granted right now. But now that that's over, and now that they changed the days with the MLB, how there's not Sunday night baseball on ESPN, it's like moved to Saturday on NBC.

Oh, it is. I don't know. It just seems like I can't we can't find anything to watch. Like, dude, these are the next two and a half, three weeks of I'm at work and I'm trying to put something on and buy anything at the bar. It's rough. Hey. Crickets right now.

Yeah. I know. But these next three are gonna be brutal. Nah, dude.

So yeah, pretty much work for me. Try to watch a little sports. You know, I I did watch the open, but the problem with watching the open was, you know, what I was telling you, it's like, look, I work a second shift job, so I stay up late. And because of the time change, it kind of worked in my favor. So I was able to watch the start of the first two rounds, you know, right because it started at like 10:30 my time here in Vegas. And I mean, I watched a good amount. I mean, I watched a solid four hours, but dude, even after four hours after the first two rounds, I barely even got to see Scotty T off. And it's just like at this point, I'm like, it's four o'clock in the morning. I'm like, dude, I I need to go to bed. Like it just like the I love the British, but it's just the time change just kills me because it's just it's so hard to watch.

It it definitely is. Obviously, it's a little easier on my side, right? But but like I used to, like I said, I don't know if I said it last week or not. I remember living in California. I used to always stay up and watch the first shot and first couple groups play the first couple holes. But it was tough, especially with Fowler teeing off so early. I mean, first round. I mean, he was done before I even woke up.

Yeah, but I at least got to watch him. I watched him play at least like the first 10 holes.

Yeah, but crazy tournament, fun. You never know what to expect in an open championship, obviously. But, you know, the coolest thing ever. Are you done with your weekend?

Weekend was busy, just worked and watched some sports. What about you? What were you doing? My weekend, same thing, dude. Watching the open, you know, watched England and France on Saturday for the third place game, and which was crazy. That was sheesh. If you like 10 goals being scored, if every soccer game could have that, be a little more exciting. But you know, watch that, watch in the open. Just that. I mean, that's it. That was my weekend.

World Cup Wrap And Final Thoughts

But before we even get into the open championship, I feel like we should put a wrap on the World Cup. Obviously, England won Saturday, got the third place prize. I guess you could call it that. I don't know what you want to call it. Yeah. But pat on the back. Yeah, championship game, Argentina and Spain. I mean, something I saw earlier that I was like, and while the game was going on, it was like, seriously? No shots on goal for Argentina? Dude, since 1966, a team registering zero shots on target in a World Cup final has only happened three times. All of them have been Argentina. 1990, 2014, and this year.

That's insane. Because Messi was on that 14 team. That's wow.

The craziest part about it is, I mean, obviously, if you don't have a shot on goal, that would probably assume that you didn't have the possession of the ball that often. I mean, like, I watched the second half. I mean, I watched a little bit of the first half, and you know, they show that statistic up on the screen of it's like this little graph of like which team had the ball the most as the game was going on. And pretty much the ball was on Spain's side the whole game. Like they had position.

Especially when the red card happened and they were man down. Yeah. And things I've read were talking about, you know, I don't know if a soccer ball is stuffed or inflated. I don't know shit about soccer. But all the media and gurus were talking about how Spain's defense could maybe be the best ever.

Bro, they didn't give up a goal the entire tournament. Well, that's where you're wrong.

And I was prepared for you to say that. So get ready to smack yourself. All right. T-Bone, I told you I was gonna bait him into this. You're welcome. Uh first game of the tournament, they tied Iraq one to one. Uh and then they beat Peru 3-1. Uh that means they've given up two goals. And then against Belgium in the quarterfinals, they gave up a goal two to one. Why were people saying they were scoring? Because you listen to the media and don't do your own research. So go ahead and smack your face. T-Bone, I told you it was happening. You're welcome. One, two. I got something for you, T-Bone. Three. Yep. That wasn't hard enough. That was weak. Shut the front door. God, that was just like, I mean, just baiting you into that was so easy. But anyhow, and then after the game, a little brawl. And it was funny, they didn't even show it. You could see like other people like on the field, like looking over in that direction. I'm like, something's going on. Right. And then they finally came out and showed it a little bit today. But it's over, it was entertaining. Yeah. I watched more soccer the last 30 days than I have in my entire life. Yeah. I mean, literally, way more. Was it that bad? No, it wasn't. But that game yesterday was miserable.

But no, that wasn't an offside. They called a penalty because he stepped on the guy's foot. Whatever it was. It was dumb. Barely stepped on it. But yeah, I mean, look, that's what soccer is, though. I mean, they're usually low-scoring games, they're a defensive battle. It's kind of like, you know, what I used to say a while ago, where it's just like some of the best games that I like to watch were those old Steelers Raven games that were defensive struggles, you know, those 9-3 games or 9-6. To other people, they were like, this is miserable as hell to watch. But being a fan of that team, you're like, hey, the strategy of how that goes, it's just, you know, it's it's not our cup of tea.

But I'll take a defensive NFL battle over a soccer defensive battle any day of the week and twice on Sundays. I mean, at least my boys or NFL guys are out there getting hit and not flopping and waiting for the what are you talking about?

You did you see all the dirty play from Argentina? Like, I was watching some of the replays and stuff, and they were being so chippy out there what they were getting away with. I I was just like, wow. I mean, you didn't it's like you don't think soccer is as aggressive as it is until you watch it and you're just like, all right, gotta give a little a little bit more.

Yeah, Lionel Messi. Well, for sure, in the World Cup. When you were watching him play, especially those last couple matches, he was literally just walking around until it was time for him to be like, okay, the ball's gonna come my way. I'll I'll sprint up there a little bit. Look, they were getting the most out of him that they can. He produced, what is he, the leading goal scorer and the leading assist leader in the World Cup? Uh I mean, he's a stud. I mean, congratulations to him. But uh look, all good things must come to an end. There's a new era, new chapter, yeah, new stars, and uh it's just it's time. It is.

Didn't lack much, had some drama, had an amazing finish, had some low scores, you know. Right? What we were talking about last week was everybody talking about how firm and fast the place was gonna be. And it was, but it wasn't as crazy as everybody thought it was gonna be. Balls were stopping, you know, the rough was super dried out, so the club was going through it. We had some low scores. I mean, we had three sixty-two's, dude. And that's that's insane. Three sixty-two's, but the winning score was 100. That's insane. And the crazy thing was we had a putt for 61 on what was it, Friday? Herbert. And missed the par putt, so we shot 62, and uh seconds later we had Sam Burns holding a bunker shot on the 18th hole to shoot 62. That's insane. But it it's hard to put words around it just because the open championship always produces that guy, not always, but a lot of the time, produces that guy that wins, and you're going, I'm sorry, what? Think back to Todd Hamilton, 2004 at Troom. Yeah. The guy that made the chip with a hybrid famous. All of a sudden, 95% of the people at your club are rolling around the greens chipping with hybrids. Yeah. You know, uh, I mean, uh, it always I mean, Ben Curtis. God, there's a name I haven't said in forever. Right? Wow, dude, it's just you gotta get the lucky bounces on Link's golf. Oh, for sure. And that's what it all comes down to. Uh but hey, gotta give credit or credits to you know, my favorite thing in golf is when the open champion is given the trophy, the guy says, What? The champion golfer of the year. Yeah. That's super sick. And thinking about that, I remember God, how long have we done this podcast? A long time. Yeah. One of the titles from our first episodes was The Champion Golfer of the Year. Yeah. I love it. I love when they say that. And I love when they put it on the scoreboard and it's like, Congratulations, Ryan. We'll see you next year at St. Andrews. Super cool. I mean, next year, St. Andrews. Is that any good? What are you looking up? Who was it four years ago? Cam Smith. Yeah. It was. At St.

It's like it's a weird year. I mean, for as well as Scotty played, and we said this on previous episodes where it's just like we rattled off what he did this year, and it's just like if anyone else was that, we'd be like, oh, dude, that's a great season. But his putting, dude, Scheffler, these last few years, what's put him over the top was his putting. And no surprise. I mean, you draft for show and what? Putt for dough. You don't putt, you don't win. Dude, he I don't know.

Once again, Rick's 500 playing in the 18th hole, makes bogey, finishes, I think he finished or shot four under yesterday to finish T18. Solid event.

Well, I want to say it's like they had a good two rounds and then a bad two rounds, where it's just like they'd have a string of holes looking really good, and then uh what had happened was, but look, I mean, I get it. In that one the golf tournament for him. Absolutely. Dude, it was absolutely insane. He said, Yeah, as he was walking up to the shot, all the media and camera people were like staring at the ball. And he said, before I even got to it, I knew I was screwed.

Dude, if you go on the if you go on the open championship app, shot one, 209 yards to Greenside Bunker, 31 yards to the pin. Shot two, he hit it 21 yards to the fairway, or it was 46 yards away from the pin. Shot three, he hit it to six feet. Makes a putt for bogey. Dude, it was sick. It was sick. I I was just wow. Wow. And wow.

That's all you can say. And you thought the best bunker shot of the week after day one was what, Matsuyama? That shot that he hit? That was sick too. I mean, I re-watched that six times and I still don't know how he hit it. I just what?

Bryson’s Penalty And Golf’s Gray Areas

But like we mentioned earlier, little drama late Friday. Uh with Rory, or not Rory Bryson, sorry. Well, I guess you get through Rory and that makes two. This guy. Dude. Dude, Bryson. I don't know, man. I've admitted it on this show after he won the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. I became a fan again. And then this kind of shit, dude, just before any of this happened, my intern at the club loves Bryson. And he's like, Why don't you like Bryson? I'm like, I don't dislike Bryson. I just think Bryson doesn't help himself with the shit he does. Another prime example. On Friday. Am I calling Bryson a cheater? No, I'm not calling him a cheater. The way he handled that situation afterwards is what bothered me. And everybody goes out there and throws shade at Rory and this and that for saying this stuff he said. Dude, golf is golf. Should Rory have said he's not a fan of Bryson? No. But any other sport out there, granted, it's not golf, they're talking shit about other people. I know it's not golf. I know it's not golf. I'm not sticking up for Rory. Okay? I'm not.

The way he handled the situation, saying I'm not going to play this weekend, when you're three shots back, granted the two-shot penalty before that, you would have been one shot back. But saying you're not going to play and then go into the then going to the range and hitting balls in the dark and holding all the volunteers and everybody hostage, they couldn't leave the facility. Yeah, I just that type of shit is what makes you go, come on, man. Dude. I understand. I understand you're pissed. Everybody would be pissed, especially if you disagree with the ruling.

You got fans standing in the bunker you're hitting a shot out of, and they're calling it not a waste bunker. DJ took it on the chin. I don't know. And then everybody coming out and saying that the Royal and Ancient are picking on Bryson because he's Bryson. No, dude. It's not a personal thing. The reason Bryson got penalized is because he's Bryson. Because all the cameras are on Bryson. If I'm playing in that field, are there that many cameras on me? Absolutely not. Maybe as I'm making a 12 on a part four, maybe. Look at this jackass making a 12. But, you know, like I said to you too. Remember Lexi Thompson in the dinosaur when she incorrectly marked her ball? If she's not Lexi Thompson, there's no issue. No, I get it. If they're Grant Cohen hitting his ball in the rough. You know. No, I get it. Is it fair? No, it's not. But is it the world we live in? Yeah, it is. Could Bryson have avoided that situation? Of course.

It's all going down. And exactly. So it's just like to me, when I first saw it, it's just like when he goes behind the ball the first time just to assess what his line is gonna be, like the shot that he he's thinking about what he wants to do, with how firm that grass is, it's just like it's gonna stay down regardless. It's I mean, like, I know what the intent of the rule is, but I almost feel like there's special circumstances that need to be taken in into account based on the situation in that particular time.

Hey, it's the same situation if you're taking a practice swing by a tree and you break a loan. You're helping out your backswing. Yeah. I get it. The thing I hate about the whole situation, he still made bogey on the hole.

They favored Tiger in that 2013 Masters. They did. I'm still mad about that.

What other nicknames we got for you, bro? Uh none that we need to talk about. Damn. We'll talk about that story later. We're not gonna air that because it is a classic one, though. But uh, dude, Aiden was a cart guy at Greenbrier, and he was a junior, I think, when I moved back, and then you know, 2020 hits, and COVID is senior year, and my guy didn't have to go to school, so I was like, let's put him in the golf shop. And right away, Aiden, I'm gonna give you a compliment here. Don't ever tell anybody. I knew right away he was way more mature than a high school kid, you know, the things he got to do and things he handled on his own, and you know, it was awesome. But uh, anyhow, fun story about Aiden, his dad, you know, is what? What's your dad do for ESPN?

Tell him to stop putting me on that damn thing. So just tell us. I mean, you graduated, went to Rosemont, played some golf for them, and tell us your story, dude. Tell us your deal. So I had my COVID year, graduated high school, didn't have all the normal festivities, but I went off to college. Uh, I skipped my fall semester because of COVID, and then we started playing golf again in the spring. So I moved up to the Philadelphia area in 2021. Played four years of golf there at Rosemont Division III, had a lot of fun, met a lot of my friends who will be with me forever. And uh after I graduated, I I'd started in the television business back home when I was, you know, 16, 17 years old, like you said, at ODU and just local stuff in Chesapeake. And uh after I graduated, I got back into it up here. And you know, of course, up here it's a lot bigger market. We have a lot more, there's a lot more opportunities for stuff like that. And uh yeah, started freelance, freelancing. Uh I started grad school at Drexel, started working there doing camera for their basketball games. And um, yeah, now I'm I'm part-time with the Phillies and doing camera and utility, and most of my work is still freelance, so I'm all over. A lot of our busy season is about to start when college football starts and basketball later on. But are you done with Drexel? Like have you are you are you graduating and done? Uh I'm planning on finishing up in the fall, so I should be done next semester. I guess I should have known that before.

It was probably my first big show. I worked at home. The UFC was in town. They were actually at Old Dominion for a fight night back in it was the last fight before COVID started, so it would have been March 2020. Okay. And it was my first ever big show. I was on camera, my first, like, you know, my big break. And it was just I was like nervous. At the TED? At the TED, yeah. And it was my first big show. I was 18, I guess, and I was probably the youngest one there by far. I mean, by I was probably the youngest person on camera by 20, 30 years, and I was like, I was in over my head, but that's just the way it is. You just gotta jump in sometimes. And from then on, it's it's been pretty smooth. You know, you make mistakes and you learn, and that's just how it goes.

So I go, I try to find a water for him, and I toss it to him. He wasn't thirsty. It was for the hair. Oh, Lord. He dumps it all over his head, and I'm just like, all right, I should have known that.

Look at blah blah blah. And then literally three and a half hours later, this is going on. Did Bryson do it on purpose? No. But he's not a cheater, dude. Yeah, that was never in question. Should he be more aware of what's going on? Absolutely. Absolutely god dang literally. But it sucked, dude, because the guy missed the cut in the first three majors and he's lighting it up, you know? And like I told Graham, I'm like, live betting he's gonna win. I would not have been surprised if my guy just went out and won by six after that situation. That's just the way the guy plays golf. But I don't know, man. What's your take? Because I saw you putting the thing on your Instagram, and that was hilarious when Bryceman posted that and he's like levitating on top of the rough. Dude, that shit was weak as hell.

You know, Tiger, which I still to this day should have been DQ'd at the Masters in 13, I think it was, when he bounced it off the flag on 15, the par five, and it ricocheted in the water and took an incorrect drop. Somebody called it in on Friday night, should have been DQ'd, but wasn't. Dude, they all took it on the chin. Bryson, you know, we all know Bryson likes what? The attention.
